Back when they were spanked harder than a ginger step kid. Plastic dash of course, in fact no leather at all.

Loved your GT2, JC, remember it at the Ring in 2005/6 something like that.

And Yellow491, great fun racing the 993 Cups and RSR in the Open around the same time. Still have any of your 993s?

>>Any more stories and/or photos you can share of the RSR, and Cup in particular, would be most welcome.

October 2007 - my Cup car in front, jimmyslr who got the bargain of the century with his 996 Cup for pennies, and RC in his amazing car which still seems to be going strong in GT Cup every now and again.

Took the RS and RSR to the Ring, drove the RS but had the RSR transported over on a truck. Can't remember what happened to the RS the pads were shot or something as we set off home, so called the truck driver who was in Belgium at the time, asked him to stop and met him. Swapped cars, and drove the RSR home with jimmyslr. One of the most epic and nuts drives I have ever done, we still giggle about it to this day smile

And quite a hike form the top bid ... not quite the cool £1/2 mil ... !! but I should say a price that sets a new level ??

Great to see some of the seasoned owners and the cars I remember at Track Days and PCGB meets 20+ years ago. I have a pic of the 993 RS and Clubsports somewhere when new at AFN London showroom. Think someone on here had the 'bloody doors off' the Purple CS. Had my car 16 years this year and still love it, no longer has outings to Spa or Ring, but that is down to the driver getting older not the car.

Three of the seven IIRC. A black one was totalled.
9M bought the salvage and bits of it ended up being built into the road going RSR built for WT Doom.
So 4 left possibly, probably all in Asia.
I met the guy who owned the black one before he wrote it off at Donington. He was a 'Security' guy who at the time was looking after the Connolly factory after they closed. He was regailing me with stories of getting chased by the law in his CS, very entertaining guy, remember roaring with laughter at some of the capers he'd got up to, albeit one you would not to get on the wrong side of. IIRC he may have been fatally injured in the crash frown
Remember the car and him well, big chap who had the door cage brace bar cut out, from memory a peice of scalp was found in the car!
Yes I remember him! He told me about the cage door bar in the 'ring car park hehe He was good fun with it-maybe around 2008?

I met Matt with the cage cut out a few times over the years, a larger than life chracter with some interesting tales.
He was from Chilham near Canterbury and met his end in a way you might expect from his lifestyle. Rip.
I didn't know that, sorry to hear.

I think one of the tings that impressed me most about these air-cooled RS cars was how easy they were to own and use. A credit to Porsche ... even little things that would break or get lost were available inexpensively from the OPC parts department ... and that's where my relationship started with my local OPC ... aided and abetted by my local Indie ... Strasse.
