So, any views on the 3.0 carrera coupe model and the price?
Cool car, I used to have a '77 Carrera 3.0
Much rarer than the common or garden SC, vastly under-rated and ignored by collectors for years and therefore likely to creep up in value as a result. £11K is a bargain IF the car really is in excellent condition.

Power is 200 hp on the nose and slightly lighter than the later SC. Performance on paper is close to the earlier 2.7 Carrera, but it's a more relaxed drive (more torque, less top end power). This was basically the first 911 with a few modern day creature comforts added and makes a good long distance tourer.
Nice cars but the engine was known to be weaker than the SC. Has been touted as an investment car for, oohhhh, about the last 23 years....but always stuck at £11k whether it's 1987 or 2007.

The engine might be theoretically slightly weaker than an SC, but we're talking here about 30 year old cars! Current condition of the individual engine in question will be far more important than any generic design issues.

As for an investment, a mint Carerra 3.0 is more collectable than an SC on rarity alone. Look at the price of impact bumper 2.7 Carreras in the last 2 years! Don't expect it to provide a pension, but it certainly won't depreciate and will more likely creep up slowly. Whereas I can't see SC prices going anywhere in the next decade, either up or down.

Don't know who touted the Carrera 3.0 as an investment car? I put my money on the 2.4S when they were still giving them away smile

Hi Guys, I'm doing some research for buying a 1980's 911sc targa. I would be very grateful for any advice, owners views etc. Are there any buyers guides available on line?
Also has anyone any experience of Gmund cars who happen to have a superb example lick
This is quite the example, or could be the makings of one.

Think he might have bought one in the last 17 years since he asked the question...

Andrew at Gmund has always been helpful when I've visited or spoken to him and their cars always seem competitively priced...and honest...which I think's the most important factor.smile
Has dated well.

Julian - you really do need a new forum name. How about TheResurrector, or BaronFrankenstein?

But I find that advert for the barn-find 911 disturbingly comical. As mere proletariat, we are not capable of appreciating it was a barn-find with a historical description, but it must be proven by showing photos not just of it in a barn, but covered in filth... in every photo.

As a seller, I'd want to show my car in the best light, and cleaning it would be first, then the 'light commissioning' of belts and an oil change, and again maybe just me, brake fluid flush, new tyres and an MOT would certainly increase the value?

But maybe the excitement of a live televised barn-find will increase it's value these days, with a celebrity or two discovering it, and the actual condition of the car is of little concern.

If watching every episode of Bangers and Cash has taught me one thing it’s that people will apparently pay more for ‘barn finds’ complete with the original muck.
