Nice alternative but destined to be a shirt loser as good as it is, I'd hang on to the Scud!
Pretty much every new supercar loses money, 458 Speciale will be no different. 458 Speciale A Spider is the car to have but as much as I tried it wasn't happening

Far from losing my shirt I predict a few buttons at worse. This is not the same car or proposition as the MP4 12C when launched, which was a "development" car that McLaren mistakenly rushed to market. The final 12C product was incredibly good but probably tarnished by what went on before.
The 650S is spot on from the outset and with low volumes compared to 458 personally I don't see a big residual value issue over 3 - 5 years which is the minimum I intend to keep this particular car. Its a car I intend to use a lot more and not worry about it, at least that way you feel you have had some value for money
I've no doubt the 650's is an excellent car and very rapid, however with regard value you only have to look on Ph classifieds and there are cars which have dropped 80k already, ok they're doing a few miles but still that's a big drop. The Speciale is sure fire at the moment and you'll struggle to get a car below list as with the Gt3 Porsche.
The smart money as you say is to hang onto it for a few years.

Nope not even going to mention it.
This car is strictly for those in the know and as far as I'm concerned the less of you guys that own one the better for me biggrin:

Worse car in the world IMHO, please don't buy one !
My friends just bought one for his wife - a 650S Spyder. It's a fast car. A REALLY fast car. I thought is looked so much better than the 12-C, or MP4-12C, whatever it's called. The road handling is awesome and ride is very very good. And he's getting a P1 - and a GTR..... But for me, the 650S just doesn't float my boat in the way that the 458 Speciale does. I do think that Shmee's looks amazing in kermit green.

I hope you enjoy your new car GRBF430F1 and it is everything that you wanted. Oh, and I expect a name change!

Thanks. Agree 458 Speciale is indeed very special and as the last of the N/a V8's I did seriously consider it. Got to point of paying over deposit in August for Jan build slot but decided against it last minute.
The 650S is not so hard core, not so focussed but a better proposition for how and when I use the car, and I love spiders.
The 458 Speciale would be wasted on my driving skills and posing trips up and down the promenade on the English Riviera.

Both absolutely brilliant cars in their own ways and I know the Speciale will hold its value better long term but I'm prepared to sacrifice that for the added creature comforts and roof down motoring the 650S spider gives me.

Must be getting old laugh

Yeah there is a current glut ( 6 cars ) of ex press and demo cars that were optioned to the max with everything in carbon etc.....
You can write off most of the options costs Day 1. A few are essential and a good spec car can be had for £240k, anything above that and its a straight loss IMHO.
The cars also have relatively high mileages and probably been driven enthusiastically but well maintained no doubt.

They represent good value for money if you can live with that but I don't think its representative of future 650S values when they are sold. TBH I think the 650S will command strong money going forward but what do I know

This one seems to have lost rather a lot of money and only a hundred miles or so, poor spec I assume...?

wait until the 458-T spider arrives to see what happens to the 650s residuals

Agree that will have a bearing but spider is at least 9 mths off as far as I understand and I only see it having a positive effect on the 650S as Ferrari won't be discounting their new baby and it will be at a premium as well

Agreed Rocco1 - but sometimes - buying a car is not just about how much it's going to to appreciate/depreciate. I thought this was a car forum - but lately we're all obsessing about future values etc. I thought that we just like getting in our cars and blasting the cobwebs away - whether its a european tour - a track day - or an early morning Sunday blast!

Don't forget to enjoy what we have - otherwise what's the point? There's another election in 4 months - and we're all going to get hit....

Heap Car for sure - Low spec, pre reg 2014 car but still good value for money if it floats your boat. Lots of Carbon isn't really necessary on these cars and wasted on Black IMHO

I share similar sentiments and agree with your comments perhaps more of us on here should share your outlook on enjoying driving our cars than worrying about residuals

I've always rationalised buying my cars as being akin to paying for a lot of good times upfront. The more use you get out of them then the cost per 'good time' is lower. If you manage to get out or change up with more than you put in in the first place then all well and good but that is never my intention. As you say, life is too short to worry about such things and IMHO isn't really in line with a true petrolhead's motivations.

+1 This! Conversations do get very yawny and repetitive on here sometimes (residuals this and that blah blah)...

As expected the market has slowed over winter months but still expect a bounce in the Spring.
Not sure it will be a big one for RHD cars and not like 2014 with all these LHD cars arriving at £50k less though

Indeed there still seems to be a fair spread on these things (both LHD and rhd) just nice to see some market movement during the closed season...

How on earth is this a low spec car?!?! The only thing it is missing are the cf bucket seats. It is the cf interior, sports exhaust, front lifter, iris2 and reversing camera (which is useless) and smatterings of exterior carbon. Dealer accrued inventory......again as i had said previously. Seriously i am gobsmacked how Mclaren have not cut down on this kind of thing.
