Don't blame you. I'm seriously tempted to go the same route for a track and euro hoon car at less than half the price I've just sold my 15k RHD Scud for. With the spare Wonga I want to pick up another F355 GTB manual as well and maybe a Ford Focus RS.

Did you buy abroad and import it yourself and was it fairly straight forward ?

Sold the CS, bought from main Ferrari dealer, all paperwork done by them including transits plates and insurance, picking up in a couple weeks. Missed out on 16M in Italy for £140k with 20k miles on it. Collecting scud on transit plates, informed my insurance on the viv and transits plates, able to drive on the plates for one month allowing to get the headlights adjusted, mot etc.

Blimey that's an incredible price through a dealer. I assumed you had done all the donkey work yourself.
These cheap LHD cars have got to dampen the RHD at some stage whether it purely be in terms of customers switching or the price dropping to narrow the gap.
I can see LHD having more upside potential long term even if the market continues to strengthen. Some of the RHD prices seem very speculative and as a mere peasant/car enthusiast you wouldn't want to be the one with your fingers being burnt.
Wealthy collectors can afford it and will always sit it out but they will want low mileage garage queens and not 10,000 mile + cars

That's why I bailed out of mine but I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time and it won't be the last either but I'm still up overall and have owned and driven some fantastic cars in my time

That is an amazing deal!

Out of interest to Scud owners, If you were just using a Ferrari for weekend use, or the odd trip around Europe etc, track time would be maybe once a year (Ring trip) - would you buy a Scud or a F430 and just add a few minor tweeks?

1000% SCUD!!!! - sorry to all F430 owners and not wanting to offend but the tweaks that go in to the Scud make it a significantly better car. It's the same with all of the special versions... Absolutely worth the extra expense and when you sell on you're are less likely to get your pants pulled down.

This makes me sound old, but how is the comfort and road noise in the Scud to the F430? Tweeks wise, just manifold, exhaust, geo setup etc. If more track time was do-able with noise limits, pad, fluid, tyres, wheels, seats.........oh no i see where this is going :s

Re-wind......daily fun car, with the 1 Ring trip a year......can i cruise Europe without a headache?

The F430/Scud price differential is £100,000+.

All that buys you is:
  • 90ms faster shift times
  • extra 20 bhp
  • lighter wheels and springs
  • ability to de-couple suspension stiffness from the other manettino settings
  • some cosmetic carbon fibre
Unless you're a collector that doesn't add up to £100,000 of tweaks in my mind.

LOL Talk about over simplifying something, the Scud (again as with all these specials) is so much more than the sum of it's parts. Plus you left off a whole bunch of stuff from your tick list. Don't get me wrong the standard car is brilliant, but the Scud is just a better car.

Jay - I would suggest go kick some tyres, by the sounds of it (and your 'older gentleman comments' smile) it might be a bit much for you if you have more comfort in mind. If you're looking for a weekend barnstormer that sounds like hells gates being rattled at full chat then yes it is worth the extra expense... Oh and Euro tours are fine as well...

My older comments are crazy Im only 30, I cant believe I actually talk about comfort haha. I just stripped and sold my 500HP Honda that I built, have for sale EK9 Civic Cup Car, a Comfy Audi daily. A LHD Scud could be the insane machine, but id just want to track it all the time, and that's not possible. Where as a F430 would maybe give the balance of more road use. The 360 spider had a very loud Tubi on it but I didn't care, always on full chat, that was 3 years ago, Id drive everywhere in it, but now i would get a headache from the boomy Tubi on a long distance, before it was just me now id like to have a chat with this misses on a long distance trip without shouting. I think i am in crisis with myself :S

Sounds like an early mid life crisis!!! smile OK, my advice - buy a Scud (you will love it) and then fit one of these - http://www.supertweaks.com/ferrari/ferrari-exhaust...

That way you have the best of both worlds and you can chat with the misses, when she wont shut up just open the valves again! biggrin

Really Russell? The F430 to 16M price differential is even more extreme at circa £150,000 and for what?

I thought the original question was about tangible improvements the Scuderia offered over the F430. We've all heard the gestalt "The whole is other than the sum of its parts" crap.

Yeah, because of all the stuff they don't give you.

Make sure you get carbon brakes if you're going to track a non-scud 430. The steels fry in no time.

I disagree! Spend £XXXX replacing carbon discs after an off in the gravel or buy the right set of race steel discs designed for track work - Go for the latter... All it takes is a few stones where they shouldn't be and you are VERY out of pocket.

I love the CCB's on my Scud but if I were to seriously track it they would the first thing to come off!
