My next mileage based service will be at ~31k, and as things are going it's likey to conincide with the next annual service. What is the best approach in this scenario? Is there a degree of overlap between the types of service that makes one - likely the annual - superflous if a mileage based service is being performed at the same time?

Steer appreciated, thanks.

No problem at all and very common to combine the two services.

What have people paid recently at a main dealer for the 31k sevice? I've been quoted £2.5k for the service and an MOT.

Someone tell me that isn't typical for a routine service!

I was quoted around £3k by Maranello for our 31k service (360 Modena). Needless to say it'll be going back to a well-regarded independent (Migliore) for this one!

Thanks both. Don't want to break the Ferrari history at this stage so it will go to a main dealer. It sounds like 2.5 may not be too bad...

Given your affinity (and comfort) for getting your hands dirty with maintaining the car yourself perhaps it might be an idea to look into getting most of the servicing work done by an indy (or yourself), and taking it to the main dealer for some perfunctory servicing work to get the stamp?

Not sure how feasible this actually is in practice mind, but it would kill two birds with one stone.

I appreciate it's a Ferrari but I'd still like to know what this £2.5k is actually buying you (labour costs notwithstanding).

Until you find it's plus VAT so you're at £3k again!

Quoted 2.4 k by Lancaster. Colchester for my 360 and that of course includes cambelts, 430 does not have belts I know but gives you an idea, Mike

That's fair enough but a few bills like that and any value advantage you feel a main dealer history gives a particular car over the reputable indies will be wiped out in no time at all, and I know various independents are Ferrari trained.

Each to his own though and perhaps look to getting the main dealer figure down a bit as they may offer a degree of price matching. Worth doing a little homework on.

For me though, my main dealer quote buys me a 31250 service. Going to my very reputable indie buys us the same service, a cam belt change, a full set of tyres and leaves a little left to replace the two lower front ball joints that are just starting to exhibit a bit of play. smile

I suppose an Indy could do the larger mileage based service and Ferrari the annual, but I if doing so I may as well just take it to an Indy for the lot. I'm happy to take on any interim work myself but I'll always take it to a reputable garage to get a service & stamp.

Thank you, Mike - that's considerably better than my Graypaul quote given belts are factored into yours. I'll give Lancaster a call later today.

Christ. When you put it like that there is a compelling case for the alternative.

At the minimum I'd play them off against each other. There will almost certainly be a dealer out there who is willing to come down to get the business, if it makes the difference between getting some money from you and none at all.

But yeah, Kyodo makes a good point - doesn't take too many of those main dealer bills to offset whatever premium you might be able to get with maintaining the full Ferrari history.

That said I'm a bit of a hypocrite, to my financial detriment. I'd almost certainly want to maintain the history on an otherwise all Ferrari serviced car, regardless of the cost. Illogical, but I fret over things like that. In my head I'd be wondering when I came to sell whether I was losing potential sales before even speaking to them because of not being able to put "full Ferrari service history" on the advert. I'm also the sort of person who understands the value of indy servicing, quite possibly a more personal and thorough relationship, whilst still wanting a car with FFSH... basically that kind of buyer. You'd potentially risk losing those people, I guess.

Hey I didn't say it was logical smile

Some of those figures strike me a very high. What is involved in a mileage service over and above an annual?

Last year I had an annual + gearbox/diff oils done from a main dealer for around £700 from memory.

Look at it this way; pay twice the price of an Indy for a main dealer service and in all likelihood have your car actually serviced by a technician who wasn't trained on a now 16 year old 360M design (and rarely sees them in the service bay these days).
Do you think your Ferrari deserves that?
Go to a good Indy, they know the cars well and see them day in, day out.

Ferrari Main Dealers can match indy prices, you just have to ask..
