Hi there,
So what do you all have as your ideal 2nd car? I don't know what to go for? I don't have far to go to work each day (22 mile round trip), all no claims used on the Fez, in my 40's, rarely take passengers, wife has a car, considering cars with zero depreciation, sexy, rare so hold value etc.

So far on a £5k/£10k budget Ive considered
CL55 AMG
CL600 V12
BMW840 Ci
Boxster S
996 GT3 kitted
Early Cayenne
Early RR Vogue
Various kit cars
more money but like the Maserati Quatroporte, Bentley Arnage

So what have you?? :-)

A manual e90 330i...my drive to work is 3.5 miles each way. Fuel not an issue. Still good fun to drive. Also got a coopers s convertible in the household.

Like your thinking as I'm considering some of your suggestions for a change in the future.

Hot hatch would work for me but haven't got a clue what to go for thats holding value or sort after, Golf R maybe? Seat Leon Cup car? think I may look out of place in a hot hatch at my age??

On your list, Cayenne is a good choice. I've got one and love it - great car for commuting but it does like a drink.

I admit I don't use it much in summer though - using a Vantage.

Not sure I'd trust a 996 or Boxster engine.

Get a Clio 200 (manual). Awesome cars and so much fun to drive - nippy and incredible handling.

I have a 197 F1 which I love thrashing around. As much fun as my F40 90% of the time!

I could be way off the mark here but looking at other things on your list, would an e34 BMW M5 be worth a shout? Ticks some boxes.
Cracking cars, should still just get a decent one on budget and they are only ever going to go up in value from here on in, (imho.) Had 1 for a year a while back and really, really loved it. I know they are a big heavy old bus, but there is something about them.
That said, as mentioned the clio has got to be worth a shout. If i didn't have such a lousy commute i'd like to try the clio.

Best hot hatch for ages has been the megane, if its about the driving... Trophy models hold value better but personally I'd get the best value car out there.... I'm 45 and have no issues being seen in it, even holds its own in the car park...

I had as my week day car a Ph1 Clio 172 - a truly fantastic fun little motor and for the past couple of years an E92 330D Msport - in the real every day world you cant beat a 330D, good MPG, great performance, great practicality, nice handling and its reliable!

M3 for daily duties, and a Golf for anything larger or dirty I don't want in the M3.

Some great suggestions guys! Looked at the 968 but interior is a bit to old hat, M5 and 6 series are on the same vain as the 840Ci which I really do like and haven't owned one!!.
The Clio I'm not keen on however I do like the look of the Megane!
Had a 330 3 series coupe years ago, great car so the 330d will be a great alternative
Still don't know what to get, need a spark of inspiration from somewhere 😊😊😊

h, I kind of missed that bit. rofl

Honda Integra DC5 - well within budget and can be ragged within an inch of its life and be grateful.
