I got myself one of these for the daily commute and general run about.
Only problem is its a little too 'revvy', I'd quite like something with monstrous torque and a few luxuries for the daily hack:

Always a Porsche for at least 15 years. There is no better daily car which is fun to drive as well.

Is it a 458 you have? If so why not use it as your daily driver? Seems a shame to have plenty of £££ tied up in a car, just to have to drive around in an old £5k beater every day...

a slightly different approach to some of the above

in the past i've had a bottom of the range fiesta as a daily : the contrast makes the ferrari ( lambo in my case ! ) feel even more otherworldly, even more of an event

Wot he said - having a daily snotter makes the weekend car feel more of an occasion, When I was looking at 360s etc but decided we wanted 4 seats and bought the Mas, the car we least wanted to ditch was the 1990 Toyota Carina. I guess after 22 years in the family you get attached to something. Now we're finding that turning up at a classic show in either means we get asked if we want to show the car..."It's not a classic, it just hasn't broken down yet".

If we want to go somewhere, we take the Mas. If we need to get somewhere, we take the Toyota smile

Would you consider leasing an electric car like a Zoe / Leaf - all in for less than £50 a week including electric....

I would hate that! Would frustrate me every daily journey having to drive around in a banger knowing I've got a great car in the garage!!

I went full budget on my daily driver - a new Range Rover vogue - and went cheap (well... low depreciation !!!) on my fun car, 430 spider.

That way I'm always driving around in a car I enjoy, probably ends up costing similar to a 458 spider and a banger in initial outlay, maybe a little more or a little less in depreciation depending how the market goes! But a much better solution for me personally. Of course it's all personal, but worth considering other options.

I am in a very similar boat to you as I have a Range Rover as the daily car and the 430 as the toy. I expect to lose a packet on the Range Rover but I'm hoping the 430's go the same way as the 355's and 360's have over the past 18 months after losing a fortune on a new M3

went to have a look at a Megane renaultsport 250 CUP today

A March 12 car with 10k on the clock up for £14k

All I can say is that you should expect to kiss a few frogs before you find a prince - I sort of forgot, having most recently looked at new cars or high end cars that are cherished (or at least looked after), how hard a life some cars can have

Just catching up on your posts, some great feedback I must say, still don't know what to get, I got soaked to the skin in the rain riding my road bike to work and back today, didn't fancy the motorbike and the F430 Spider stays in the garage following an unexpected Area Group Class award at the NW FOC Concours meeting yesterday at the Vale Royal Hotel http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/9.gif

Got rid of my LR RRS after it ballooned money every month I owned it obviously as it was new, did I like having a new car, at first yes but soon got bored and the depreciation of £30k, £1k per month of my ownership, finished me off.

I went over ten years driving all sorts from CAT D's, high milers to new imports (when there was a profit to be had) to flood damaged, etc etc all luxury/Sports cars and never lost money, bar one, a Porsche 997 3.8S GT3 kit that I loved so held on to for to long!!

My wife hates the classic exec big engined lumps and she has a point that I only need it for a 22 mile round trip to work, but I still need something that I'll like, safe in the knowledge it's rare and its not going to depreciate.

Who knows, but need to sort something rather quickly!!

Hi again,

Yes, that's the balancing act. The big new cars certainly know how to lose money, I've estimated £15k a year for my Vogue on depreciation, but I went in with eyes open so it isn't so bad. Still, I think it is really rewarding having a car that isn't depreciating, a lot to be said for the element of 'Wow, this is great - and it's basically FREE!'. Certainly a big plus for the F430 hehe.

Maybe a nicer, slightly older, luxury car bought from a main dealer to get the full warranty - as Im sure you know, those things can get COSTLY when they go wrong.

Something Merc or BMW? Maybe even Audi or Jag? I bet you could get something nice from a main dealer at the lower end of their bigger models in used stock. If you get something sporty I'm sure you will just wish you were in your Ferrari! If you get a luxury car, even if it is a few years old, it's still going to suit a boring commute in traffic and in the rain better than a Ferrari would, so you might actually enjoy it a bit more and get something out of it.

Just an idea.
