Hello

Just starting to look a bit more seriously for a 355 and while a RHD, manual, GTB is probably what I really want, this caught my eye. I like the spec and the open top would add an extra dimension to weekend drives and touring. Would appreciate any comments and views on the spec and price etc.

Thanks

Average asking price for LHD is currently £76k. Median is £79.8k if you take our friends suggestion above!
Does anyone monitor numbers of cars sold? All very well reviewing asking prices, but if cars stick around at a price for months on end are they not over-priced?

Red SLR - do you monitor the age of cars unsold? That would be the real indicator of the health of the market.
I monitor a couple of cars in Germany ...been for sale for about 12 months, price reduced etc. So on that small sample, not a lot of movement

Video was taken in the summer by the looks of it.

The off side high beam lens looks newer than the nearside. The interior looks like it might need some work on the sticky plastic but hard to tell so difficult to say more without seeing it, might be ok. Pax air bag cover showing shrinkage, not bad enough to warrant recovering but might get there in next few years. All normal stuff TBH.

I cant see a price listed.

Have you had a 355 before?

Must admit I was set on a manual but an F1 came up which I wanted, it was my perfect spec other than gearbox and took a gamble (never driven either!) and it does not disappoint. The F1 is characterful and actually quite fun. That said I have not driven a manual. I don't have any need to try one now though.

Technically they are the same gearbox too, just one has the F1 system over the top of it.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like routine stuff as you say, hopefully nothing more than that. They are asking £75k for the car.

I have driven manual and F1 GTBs and prefer the manual - just a bit more fun in my view. I have been wanting to tick the Ferrari box for a while and the 355 is one of the prettiest.

Do people think a cabrio is a no no come resale time?

Thanks

I think so. I've driven both and loved the manual. Thanks

I have a spider. Its the only one for me tbh. I could have got any of them but I don't see the point in the GTS and the GTB is a great car but for a car that will only really be used on nice days there is a big attraction to open top motoring in those situations.

The GTB and GTS also require the c pillar repaired on a fairly regular basis. (every 5-10 years)

The spider top is known for its issues too but its swings and roundabouts tbh.

Colour is a contentious issue too, for 'rare colour combination' read 'less popular' and should have some effect on the price. Red with crema interior the most saleable.

QED wink

The beauty of a GTS is the simplicity of the mechanism and the retention of the Berlinetta's overall shape.

Agreed. The best of both worlds albeit with a bit of wind noise/leak potential. A small price to pay for the roof-off moments, which is most the time the car is out.

See http://www.pistonheads.com/features/ph-buying-guid...
and http://www.the355.com/

Price wise, the cost differences between GTB, GTS and Spider seem to be less then the cost difference between LHD, auto and not red, all of which reduce the cost by comparison with RHD, manual, red (all other things being equal).

Depends on mileage surely? Most are doing a few thousand max a year so not sure this is an issue?

Perhaps but I was told to budget 5-10 years all being well. I am pretty sure some people have had 3-4 years out of them also which is not the best - bumpy roads or track use probably plays a part rather than actual mileage.

I agree. When I was seriously looking I wanted a GTS. Not many about though. Any number of spyders to choose from but the flaky roof mechanism and wear on buttresses of every car I looked at soon turned me off them. Then I bought the 575 Coupe and lost interest.

I Called the seller of this car several times, they would not come down from £75K despite the sills needing painting, the interior un-stickying and a service. Its been for sale for quite a while. Also the seller would not let me test drive it unless I purchased it first (I thought this practice was reserved for car warehouses!). I gave up trying to negotiate with him and bought a nice LHD GTS instead from someone who would let me drive it, it had just had an engine out service from Foskers who I called and they said the car I was buying was A1 :-)

That was 3 weeks ago and its only taken me that time to get used the the LHD and its not detracting from the experience. I am really happy with my GTS. I would think that with world events as they are buying a LHD which has a world wide market is not such a bad thing at the moment?

Could well be. The average asking price for RHD cars has gone down (-5%) over the last 6 months. For LHD its gone up (+8%).

I've started looking at potentially getting a 355. I'm confused by all the ads stating "the rarer manual car" ?? As far as I can tell there were 4 times as many manuals made as F1's. ?

The manual gearbox cars aren't rarer (there's 3x as many) but they are more sort after.
