Flight Simulators
Discussion
I am learning to fly in a Diamond DA40, and have extended periods of time when I am away working and therefore can't do any training other than reading.
I wondered if there were any decent flight simulators that might be beneficial to use when I am away?
I would be looking at using it on an iPad, so wouldn't have infinite computing power available to me.
Thanks in advance.

The iPad may be useful for some things, but a flight simulator it isn't. I cannot envisage any way in which it would be at all beneficial in primary flight training. No controls, wrong visual senses (in a normal aircraft the world stays static and you move ... on the iPad?)
The best thing you can do is use it to learn all the theory, which will certainly please your Flight Instructor when you get back. It might even please the Chief Flight Instructor of your training organisation or registered facility too.

Use the time to learn the theory. The need to complete the ground exams will come quicker than you think and you don't want to cram them all in at the end!
Not only do you need to do the exams, but you'll find the information very useful for your actual flying (especially met & principles of flight in the early stages)

How are you on the g1000? Being an old Luddite that has recently transitioned from a 6 pack to g1000 then I have found the Jepp iPad course helpful.
I'm not using the G1000 yet, but will have a look at the Jepp course, as it's something I will use one day.Thanks.
Not flying the aircraft specific, but the FAA has an online 'Wings' programme, you can sign up as a UK national and they have various courses you can do online which are free. Obviously some are very US specific (eg airspace) but others are universal, for example mitigating risk / establishing personal minima. It won't teach you how to fly better, but may teach you how to make better flying decisions.
