Can I just ask a serious question.
Rambo and Yipper in particular but all of you really. How many of you track your supercars regularly? Proper track days I mean, not a meet where everyone cruises round. Of those that do, how many of you can honestly say you drive them at 100% of their capability?
I ask because I don't track my supercars. I race and I do track days in cars I own specifically for that purpose and neither has the bhp of a supercar. Last year I did proper test days for racing but when I couldnt get on them I did test days at track days (I know, I shouldn't) and spent every single one of them pushing supercars round in my 135bhp Ginetta.
I spend a lot of time on circuits and from what I see out there driver training makes you faster (and safer), bhp and tech doesn't. Not unless you're already a very capable race driver, largely because without training, most people can't make use of a c(ar's capabilities to the full anyway.
Genuine question asked because some people seem to think better = track times and stats and I wonder who is actually making use of it all, i.e. making it relevant?
Completely agree. See my profile - spent many years tracking and racing bikes and that's a world where the rider makes all the difference.Rambo and Yipper in particular but all of you really. Think we are off topic.
Is the Speciale that Special. Absolutely yes. Is it the fastest... No.
Who cares.
Are they going up up up or down in value gents.
That's the point of this thread, its not a car knocking thread or comparison against other cars, its about a truly great car and that car alone and whats going to happen to its value in the future.
Will I be able to push the button or not!!!
Whilst out on my Sunday morning drive I very much doubt that I will see any of the others to compare!!!
And with that said !!!

I've tracked my Speciale a few times. Have I driven it at 100% of its capability? Probably pretty close. Hard enough to have it at and beyond the limit of adhesion for most of Silverstone, including the exit of Woodcote which in the Speciale means sometimes the tail pops out at circa 130 mph (given its handling this isn't nearly as intimidating as it might sound). I track it for two reasons, firstly for fun (no really ), secondly to learn to drive it well, which means having a professional racing driver instructing - an indispensable piece of kit. I have an instrument fit for a virtuoso and I want to know how to play it.There are of course other supercar owners like me but I suspect we're a minority - and when I can find a bit more cash, and time, I will probably do a bit of racing, before I get too old to clamber into a car!

Presume if you are testing you are running on slicks? if that is case its no surprise you catch everybody.Juno said:
Anyway the topic is about how the 458 Speciale will fair this year,an intoxicating exotic but for my wallet it's a concerning financial stretch at the moment with regards to the risk side.

Having a quick look the classifieds it seems like the values are still very strong for non left hand drive or decent spec cars. There are a lot of the usual cars that don't exist adverts and a fair few cars with colours and specs that i would not consider so i would say that prices will hold strong through this year at least and if you are buying to keep then even if they do come back to list at some point then in the future they will at least stay there or climb again to where they are now and above for the right car.Are they going up up up or down in value gents.

If your exit speed of woodcote is a true gps 130mph then maybe you really are close to 100% of the capability of the car. What speeds are you reaching just before you have to brake for copse then at the end of the national pit straight? I'm assuming you're doing 2:20 or thereabouts for the GP track?Juno said:

My guess is neither, perhaps very gently downward but expect they'll still be in the low 300s come Christmas. Are they going up up up or down in value gents.
My point was only to counter all the 'faster is better so why is a Speciale special if an x is faster' comments.
Stats and specs aren't what makes a car special is my only point.
This just popped up on my Facebook feed. Glorious.

This one is sub £300k and has still remained unsold for months ???? Any reason why

The white one at DK Engineering has also just dipped under £300k. http://www.dkeng.co.uk/ferrari-sales/661/Prestige_... I like what I'm seeing tbh. Make no mistake the Speciale is an incredible car but I think two factors are coming into play here - firstly the market for modern limited edition cars is definitely overheated and investors/flippers/dealers are no-where near as bullish as they were a year or so ago, and secondly there are now so many impressive cars entering the market - every month we hear of a new lap record around <insertnamehere> circuit - that enthusiast buyers now have some very real options - at least those who want the latest and greatest. I may be wrong but brand loyalty is being eroded steadily, well besides for a few obvious examples on PH , and supercar buyers are beginning to look around when assessing where to spend their money - most notably amongst the YouTube generation.

Is white less desirable?
This 100%It's one of those colours that is mamite but as it's priced to sell and the spec is not too bad i can't see it hanging around long now the weather is picking up.It's only been advertised since January so not too long at all for a car of this value.
I've been looking at these for a while, but cannot for the life of me understand the price spread. It would appear that 1200 miles could cost you circa £30 per mile in depreciation alone, and that is beyond ridiculous.
The cars at £350 have been there since the dawn of time, and the fear is that if you do eventually find one sensibly priced at circa £300k or below, then you will have an massive job selling on if you use the car as intended.
The LT is quicker, and honestly a fantastic car, but weekly new models and lack of dealer support is off putting. Also can't help feeling Mac are Lotus....with a bigger hat.
