I have often had this discussion with my father; he taught me a 'post war' value for money, which is invaluable. On the other hand, I have reminded him that time is the now the rarer commodity for him so why not spend at least some money on things he would enjoy - I can tell you he has worked incredibly hard his whole life but struggles to spend the fruits of his labour. He is still a work in progress although the patient is getting better daily!
Not trying to lecture, your comment just triggered off something in my head that's all.
Your Dad's problem is my problem - likely we are a similar age anyway. I've got part way there - I've bought the bloody thing. Just finding it a bit hard to use it as god/Enzo intended. The problem of course, and this may well apply to your dad too, is that late in life you may well have plenty of capital but its all you are ever going to have, and your income is small. It gives you a different outlook from those still earning well. Not trying to lecture, your comment just triggered off something in my head that's all.
Anyway, less of my personal hang ups. Thanks to everyone for the comments on car models. I shall now go out an polish the 430!

Then sell it & buy a good 308. The maintenance overhead on the 430 in the future will be huge. 308s are simple to work on, cheap to insure and are even starting to be free of road tax for the earliest models. They've also plenty of upside left in long term value appreciation, I am sure.Behemoth said:
I think a Mondial would make a pretty good track & hill climb car. Take off the side strake mouldings and it looks 50% better, too. Not sure if the requirement for a rag top ties in well with the desire to track the car, though...
there's a chap who races a Mondial T Cab in the FFC. Excellent car and sounds great with Tubi.TB303 said:

I reckon the power of the oil companies might knock that date back a bit, although I think we all know it is on the way.I live in the UK.
Get your road trips in over the next decade though folks...

I still use my 1930 Ford Model A on the road. Most of my classics don't have seatbelts.
They can't stop us using existing cars on public roads anywhere.
All they can do is make using them more expensive, they can't ban existing vehicles.
I also live in the UK, North Yorkshire. Plenty of great roads up here that you can have fun on.
Ah! I should have guessed.
Wonder why we Brits are so keen to knock British products . I might have a Ferrari but I would undoubtedly chose a Maclaren in preference to a 488 assuming I could afford either. If we knock British industry how can we expect foreigners to buy our products?

Or maybe it's just that us Brits have a sense of humour and don't dislike Mclaren but are still able to make a joke. I actually quite like and respect them, personally.Wonder why we Brits are so keen to knock British products . My experience is that many foreigners love and hugely respect British products, so we must be doing something right!
