You see this is useful for me as I am going to Ferrari to have a look Sat. I have already been to McClaren and decided if I go down that route it will be a 650s spyder. The wife prefers Ferrari's so I have agreed to go and have a look. I have driven a 458 and it was excellent. I would prefer to go for a new 488 but I know there would be a wait. The other option is a 458 but then the McClaren is so much better value I just don't know if I could do it.

Now people are talking about P14's its got me thinking.

Buy a 458 now then upgrade to a 488 Spyder

or

Buy a 650s spyder now upgrade to a P14 Spyder in the future.

or Wait and get either the 488 or P14 new.

I am out of the country for most of the next 6 months anyway so wont get time to drive anything.

I guess these are nice problems to have.

Not often I laugh out loud at PH posts but that one got me.
It's brilliant isn't it. This thread is like some kind of Fast Show sketch.

OP walks into a shop: "I'd like to buy a Ferrari please."
Rambo Lambo: "Have you considered a McLaren, sir?"
OP: "No, I've got my heart set on a Ferrari."
Rambo Lambo: "How quaint. You do realise the McLaren has a carbon tub."
OP: "I just want to buy a Ferrari."
Rambo Lambo: "But Sir, the McLaren is half-an-ounce lighter and goes round a track .00003 seconds quicker."
OP: "Please just sell me a Ferrari."
Rambo Lambo: "I think if you drive a McLaren you won't go back. By the way, do you realise it has a carbon tub. It also generates 3 grams more downforce at 207mph."
OP bangs head repeatedly against the wall because physical pain is preferable to this conversation. Walks out of shop.
Rambo Lambo: "You'll be back sir. You mark my words. The McLaren is lighter, faster, better looking.....voice fades out.
Twice in one thread, amazing. ;-)

All joking apart I know OP is looking for a change from a 12C and I fully get that but I still think he will end up in a 650S Spider as being the most sensible buy out there at the moment. Why pay overs for a used 488GTB
Whoa, whoa, hold your horses there pal.

Don't start bringing that sort of language in here.

If I want to hear the word "Sensible" being used in relation to car purchases I'll go talk to my wife.

Appalling behaviour. 100 lines of "I will not use the word 'sensible' in supercar forums ever again" please.

I apologise, like I ever do anything sensible.
Remember the Ferrari dealer saying to me do you buy a car with your head or your heart when I was looking at a new 458. I told him my heart and I think he started rubbing his hands together. The smile somewhat disappeared a month later when I turned up in the 650S spider

I'm sure it did, you would have still been smiling had you stuck with the Ferrari. As it was only the 650 was smiling, like a chinaman as per my post a page or 2 back.

Why did you go back to a Ferrari dealer in a McLaren? Were you attempting to convince the staff that it was the better car? confused

"Look I know you're just front of house and you answer the phones, but can't you see it's better? Carbon tub!!!!"

tongue out

Brilliant. smile

Disclaimer: Ferraris and McLarens and other marques are decent.

Isn't the carbon tub only relevant with spiders due to lack of scuttle shake?

OP is looking at a coupe.

My problem with 488 is when the exhaust valves open it sounds crap in comparison to the 458 it replaced. Sounds nice a throaty with them shut then no crossover like a 458.

458 engine in 488 please.

Don't buy a red one then. 458 / 488 both look much better in TDF blue, black or grey with a tan interior, and are much less clichéd than 'standard' red.

Seriously? A tan interior? Do you smoke a pipe?

Red, black interior, carbon seats, red stitching, carbon trim. Perfection.

No, not a pipe smoker but I do drive this old girl and think the colour combination works perfectly,

Seriously, I guess I just don't like the 'trying too hard' image of a bright red Ferrari, especially for a middle aged bloke like me, black with a contrasting red or tan interior would be just more fitting.

Not sure how it's "trying too hard" to do the "cliched" red Ferrari? How can it be trying too hard to do the traditional Italian colour allocated to Italian racing teams over half a century ago by the FIA? Surely trying too hard constitutes trying to stand out by going for.......a none red Ferrari.

What should we be embarrassed about such that we should feel the need to hide away or blend in? People look at my cars, I smile, stop, let them sit in it, talk cars, everyone's happy. Who doesn't like a bright red supercar, or an orange one, opal fruit green? Celebrate, enjoy, have fun, don't hide and apologise. Life's too short.

What colour combo did you go for on yours?

As it is, whilst TdF is quite nice, the interior you refer to is bloody awful. This car is available to buy now by the way. I couldn't spend 2 weeks touring Europe in that, I would be sick. That might improve the interior actually. :-) However, my point was that red and black is super duper.

It's definitely car dependant but if you want class then blue and tan is the way to go..

and for a little more excitement, or "back to the womb" as I call it...
