More than a little bit excited about the upcoming F12M. Might have to sell the 599 and a kidney. Seriously, though, what's the consensus on pricing, including 'sensible' extras? Must be a great buy, no? The last n/a V12 from Ferrari. That's quite something.
I have heard that it will be 800bhp. And have mechanical features seen on the TDF.

It'll be great, and I'll probably swap my F12 for one, but it's utterly pointless it being more powerful or capable.

I've just spent a week touring Wales and Snowdonia in my F12 and even below 4000rpm the F12 was capable of hitting speeds, in short order, that would see me banned instantly. I don't faff about in the twisties either and the car was barely breaking a sweat (although after testing a new race car at Blyton a couple of weeks ago I took the F12 round for a few laps and it showed it's weight and size a bit then but Blyton is quite small).

I have no idea where manufacturers are going to go with the future of road going supercars but more power and ever more capable handling is an utter waste of time. I wonder which one will be brave enough to say "enough is enough, from now on we are concentrating on fun"?

It's like genetically engineering a woman with 8 breasts. I've only got 2 hands so what's the point?

Yeah... but '8 breasts'!!!!!! And that IS the point. I think this 'where do they go question is one that has done the rounds and will continue to do so. It's a point in time.

Fast forward 10 years, same questions but more tech and we'll look back at 700 hp and think nothing of it.

The fun option is already covered by the likes of Lotus et al'.

The supercar fun option could be, keep piling on the coals / power but put the driver back at the centre of the action - aka a manual. Porsche and Aston seem to be leading the way there.

Now... what to do with 8 tities... Ooooooooooooooo. Lol

Bang on Leg.

I've taken my 650S on a few Euro trips over the last 18 months, I've driven it on wonderfully fast, empty roads in perfect conditions and I cannot get at the car's limits, not even close. I will never need better handling or more power than this car has.

And yet, I'm drooling over the 720S (and possibly the Performante). I want more power, I want better handling, I fall headlong for all the teasers, the stats, the buzz phrases and the techno talk. I need this car in my life because it does everything better than before, it's just MORE dammit!!

Never mind manufacturers saying enough, when will we ever say enough?

They know we won't, unless we're forced to.

Good grief.

I've done the same round Europe many times. Get into the Alps, off the main roads and onto the passes and away you go. I find the limit of what I feel is safe and fair for other road users way before I find my limit and the car's limit.

Manufacturers won't go back to cars that will allow you to find the limits on the road (I can tank around the country roads near me in my Son's Vauxhall Adam 1.4 at license losing speeds without much effort even - if I wanted to) so, to find my own limit and the cars limit I own classic cars as well and can't recommend something like my favouritist, most bestestist little baby below enough to all of you. 1972 Mk1 Escort RS1600 BDA Cosworth. Absolutely epic, even at sub 100mph speeds.

Err, not cheap these days though although it's little brothers the RS2000 and Mexico aren't too expensive yet. They lack the engine and pedigree but similar idea. Big bonus is, classic car collectors don't give a hoot about mileage, just condition and history so so long as you look after them, you can drive them as much as you want without any affect on the value. Yay!

Which brings me back to my earlier post. What is "better"?

That's an awesome looking little car
I bought a 2012 Clio recently and after having to drive that a lot as the FF is in the shop, I realized how much I miss a car that you can properly rev out with a manual transmission and light weight ....so am thinking next purchase likely to be an old Porsche or similar as opposed to a new Ferrari /McL / Porsche (well and old V12 Ferrari would be awesome but will likely ) remain a dream forever

I don't think I need more than 600 bhp. Instead I would like a lot less weight - so I want less! - specifically for those occasions when having tailed a La Ferrari for half a lap of Silverstone, nailed the left-hander on to Hangar straight, stayed with him down the first half of it (pretty pleased at this point smile), then grabbed sixth gear north of 130 mph, and found the V12 leaves me behind with ease!

To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "That's not a little car, this is a little car". My original, Radbourne Racing, 1967 Abarth 595. RWD, rear engined, 27bhp and an absolute hoot.

Makes me laugh just looking at it. If anyone thought my constant banging on about how more power and tech doesn't mean better and so on, was just something I thought it isn't, it's come from owning a rear engined Italian car with 27bhp that is as much fun as a front engined one I own with 740bhp and other stuff in between.

Trying to keep that Abarth on it's limit on B roads is a real challenge, get a corner wrong and you're back down the gears and starting again. All below 75 mph.

Anyway, I'll shut up now, I can't even remember if this is remotely on topic anymore. Feck, I love cars. Vroom!

Lovely cloud9

That's what being a true petrolhead is about, seeing past values and power figures.
