Morning all. So I have been thinking about a Capristo full system for my Scud but you guys don't seem to think it's worth it. My carbon in the engine bay needs some attention as the engine heat is an issue, this gets resolved with the exhaust system. I'm guessing having the valves open or shut might allow me to finally get it on a track day plus if the system does anywhere near what they suggest I'm thinking the car will sound ridiculous which for me is very exciting... Easy to revert to stock if I ever sell it which I'm hoping I don't have to... Struggling to see the downside of a Scud on steroids. My 355 has a system on it and when you push it the sound is fantastic... I tried to look up this competing systems that has been mentioned but no joy, do they have a website ? Many thanks and sorry for the long post

you'll struggle to find many tracks days whereby you'll make the db limit.

I've never heard a 355 with the capristo but the 430 scud is ridiculously loud with it

For 08/09 430 scud is a mileage of around 30k considered middle or high (I know in normal world it would be considered low).

What have people paid for minor and major services on 430 scud?

sad as it is, that is quite high. Mine is end of 08, 22k miles but it had around 18k when I bought it nearly 3 years ago now so I'm slowly bringing down the yearly average. Think my last service was just over £1,000, not a major one obviously.

Main dealer prices for routine servicing:
Annual Service £750
2nd Annual Service £1100
Major Services (6250/18750/31250/43750 miles) from ~£1500 upwards, biggie is at 43k as they check the timing chain.

I run a full capristo on my 16M - the sound is amazing but you won't get anywhere near a track day with it unless you also run one of the valve controllers that keeps the valves shut for noise tests (keeping valves shut is probably not the best idea at high rpm).
The capristo also doesn't really run much cooler than stock although you can additionally add a muffler jacket which does reduce the temps.

Summary of my car's service history

Registered Sept 08
Serviced Oct 09 @ 2,009 miles £1,041.84 Joe Macari
Serviced Jan 11 @ 4,891 miles £1,917.31 Joe Macari
Serviced Jan 12 @ 10,109 miles £1,019.99 Joe Macari
Serviced Mar 13 @ 12,371 miles £1,460.06 Graypaul Nottingham. Service + checking 'ticking noise from cold' (£499.20)
Serviced Jan 14 @ 14,979 miles £3,408.79 Graypaul Nottingham. Service + new brake pads all round + osf wishbone & bushes and £360 of collection & delivery
Serviced Jan 15 @ 17,270 miles £1,141.46 Joe Macari
Serviced Aug 15 @ 18,237 miles £978.19 Joe Macari
Serviced Oct 16 @ 19,860 miles £1,636.39 Dick Lovett. Service + collection & delivery (£180), Aircon regass (£147), New Antiroll bar bushes (£276.42) and door adjustment (£57)

With the exception of the Jan 11 service (where I think Joe Macari took the p***) annual servicing is just over a grand. Its whether other bits and bobs need doing, which depends on your mileage and driving style/track use or just road use.

For the type of car it is I think running costs are more than reasonable.

I hope this helps.

The list of servicing is really useful and surprisingly less than I anticipated. Sounds like yours has been very reliable!

full system ordered. Makes sense it wont change the track issue but I'm very excited none the less.

Your doing about the same sort of mileage I would do, so perhaps it isn't so bad for me if I keep it a couple of years. Im paying less for it in the first place too.

These mileages you're discussing.... are around 2.5 to 3,000 miles a year... that's barely one return European roadtrip. I haven't looked at your garages/alternative cars or anything, it's not really relevant, and I guess the answer is clear, but is that enough?
I have a 2 car garage (of a much, MUCH lower order), but there's no way I could limit myself to that mileage a year...
For a grand a year on servicing I'd want a guarantee of trouble free motoring if I'm only doing 2-3 thousand miles...

You won't be disappointed.

Are you doing headers, cats and muffler with remote valve control or just cats and muffler with remote?

I've done 1500 miles per year in mine. Routine servicing is between 1k-1800 a pop but unplanned costs can be high.

+1. Unless you have a choice of cars silly low miles is bonkers. What's the plan, buy the car and keep the miles low for the next custodian? Lol

Re the Capristo. Have to say I too am v tempted. Even though stock is excleent this thought of more and an exhaust tone more (old school) F1 is hard to ignore

The full details are on my work email so not 100% sure but I've gone for the full stage 2 kit they offer and comes with the remote to turn on and off which living in London will be important. I have to say the info Chris offered me was great and they seem so convinced I'm going to be happy they offered a money back guarantee ( not sure how much that would stick if i'm really not happy but hopefully it won't be an issue ). Will all be fitted by the end of March so we shall see and in perfect timing for a bit of a Ferrari jaunt from London down to the Cotswolds smile

As for the mileage question.... I do have other options so the Scud is a special occasion car. That said, I do agree that it's better to drive them than worry about what you're doing to the resale. My guess is that with this exhaust system fitted it may be doing a fair few more miles this summer !

I get my Speciale transported to mainland Europe. That way I avoid unnecessary unpleasant miles through England and Belgium and can get cracking on the best roads straight away. Get it at an airport and job done. I did all of slithern Germany / Austria / Italy with all the mountain passes you can dream of and every single mile was pure bliss with maybe a total of 100miles of motorway on the whole trip!

Saves miles and hassle and for me 100pct worth the expenditure at least on one leg of the journey if not both. Previous year I had the GT3 transported to Nice and then drove back through Alpes Maritimes, Switzerland and Black Forest. Then had to do the boring bit from Germany through France into the godawful UK motorway network. But at least kept it to a minimum.

So ... I really want a LHD Scud. Finding one is a little challenging at my budget (135k). I thought I had found the perfect car (good mileage, price and Ferrari warranty), but it managed to sell whilst I was waiting for them to send me the service history. 😞

The search continues ...
