I have recently started looking for a 488. Would somebody mind confirming, if I find one for sale privately is it a simple case of paying a Ferrari dealer for an inspection and as long as it passes, a warranty can be added for circa £3500 per year? Thanks!
Correct, although most cars that go through an inspection need some work done to pass from my experience. It’s then the issue of convincing the seller to pay dealer prices to rectify.

I've just had a price to renew the Power 15 warranty on my 458 - £3880 for 12 months. Think I'll 'self warranty' at that price
What did you pay last year?

I’m very surprised that’s a renewal quote.
Only recently bought the car so I didn't pay for the current policy. It's more than I was expecting if I'm being honest and I assume it's not a dealer-specific price, although I may phone a couple of others up just to check
Got another price - £3550 including a mandatory 'pre-warranty' inspection. And if anything is found in that inspection that you have to fix before they will renew, but you decide not to bother, then the inspection is 4 hours at £195+vat/hour. I'll definitely be self-warranting
As others have pointed out, you get discounts for renewing and not claiming. I also get cheaper servicing and free covered collection and return for about 2.8k. I also get them to waive the inspection fee which is something like £150.

Which dealership is that with? My service is due a few months before the warranty is due so not sure I can tie the two in - I will if I can but I didn't think to ask at the time.

Greypaul. The previous owner had let the service get out of line with the warranty, so I brought them back in line.
I find Greypaul to be excellent.

Did you over-service or under-warranty to get them in-line?

Over serviced.

Car was registered in March. When I bought it, the services had drifted to September. So I serviced that September then again in march. There were only 80 miles between services but I thought it was worth it to get them back in line. It’s also just easier to have service, mot, warranty all done at the same time.

Although, I'd buy a car from an owner like this!

I have done the same with my old Maserati - when COVID lockdown meant getting it serviced on time was a problem. Far lower cost, mind, than a Ferrari!

6 month old oil that's done 80 miles....I'd be asking them to pour what they drain out back in the top. hehepaperbag

Chances of them just stamping the service book? I would say 100%

I can see the logic in it but at the age the cars are now I really dont think it would affect its resale.

It’s about 10k more than I paid for mine - which is almost identical.

It’s priced about right - should sell in the spring.

Been looking at 488’s lately.

I’m 6’3 and wondering whether I’d fit in a spider with the roof up? I understand the spider roof is lower due to the mechanism.

Anyone similar height or taller and fit ok?

Sounds a great reason to go and sit in one, it’s hardly a chore.

I suppose one of the joys about motoring forums is a shared experience, after all there's nothing quite like an exchange of ideas, thoughts and opinions. Not quite as good as doing it over a pint of beer perhaps but a friendly exchange nonetheless.

On the other hand we could all sit behind a keyboard and just, well, be antisocial I guess.

Great suggestion, but nearest one advertised is 160 miles away. Will do that if it’s likely to be worth the journey
