Lots of 599 GTOs for sale - why?
Discussion
There are double the amount of F40s to GTOs so supply and demand must make a difference.
Agree on some of the points on pricing but there is a large spread between LHD and RHD pricing more so than is normally seen. The gap will likely reduce but which one will move?
Incidentally, I'm aware of 3 LHD 599 GTOs that have been sold in the UK within the past 6 weeks which shows at least for LHD, the 599 GTO market is very active.

Sterling's depreciation must be a factor in this. DK just sold a friend's lhd Barchetta back to Germany from whence it came. I'm betting that one or more of those lhd GTO sales saw the car crossing the channel. Factor yes though the Euro:GBP rate is only slightly off where it was in 2013. What percentage of UK LHD sales typically leave the UK?
I keep telling all these Brexit scaremongers that! Evidence from auctions is that it's Europeans who are buying right now. Good time to put an lhd car up for sale methinks traxx said:
This statement depends as usual on how many you think were made - the guys who collect vin numbers suggest >800 and perhaps a lot more
Suggest and perhaps, any facts? I'm not a VIN counter myself.Edited by traxx on Sunday 23 October 22:24
Out of interest I just checked and nearly ~20% of the 'GTO' cars advertised on Mobile.de are 599 GTBs dressed as GTOs.
I don't want to dwell on the circumstances but given the GTO's driving nature I'd be interested to know how many have been written off.

20% really?? I've only seen 2 GTO conversions and 1 with wheels and front end...out of 101 cars currently for sale on mobile.de
you prob meant 2%
Thanks for searching through 101 cars but my search back in October last year (!) was based on cars labelled as 599 GTOs but were not.you prob meant 2%
No doubt some seasonal influence but there are now much fewer LHD GTOs for sale

The steam has gone out of the market generally and this can be felt more strongly for some of the rarer / higher priced cars / limited editions, where the rise was faster when prices were still going up. There are now too many investors trying to cash in on the price increases who have left it too late. Any market where there is limited supply and limited demand works that way - it quickly gets out of balance and the price swings are more marked, in either direction.
Would be sellers not prepared to take the hit and sell at today's market price, so their cars stick around - you get the same thing in the property market whenever there is a slow down there, too.
On which topic, there seem to be a lot of 458 Speciales about just now.

Paying £200k or 50% more for RHD is bonkers.
All relative. Taking a loan to buy a car costing 50 grand and will depreciate is bonkers to many people. The GTO is an aggressive beast that has big presence, the 599 is a larger car than the F12 to begin with. In some ways it feels harder core than a TDF too. With only around 80 odd UK first registered RHD cars delivered, it's still a rare pretty special car.

So disregarding value/investment potential/sentiment etc which of tdf and GTO would you sell if one had to go ?The GTO is an aggressive beast that has big presence, the 599 is a larger car than the F12 to begin with. I've done just under 5K in a my GTO since buying her new in 2011. I've driven a couple of hundred miles in the TDF since she was delivered last month, and while I have a sense of what the TDF can do, the weather has acted as a powerful brake. And it wont be until road temperatures rise that I can better judge.
You feel the weight loss regime more in the GTO; the way the doors shut, the interior trim, the sound inside in the cabin - you hear every aggressive snort and snarl of its engine. It feels raw, it sounds raw, it drives raw. The TDF's engine sounds much deeper, much richer, far more menacing but I've hardly pushed it. The TDF's doors shut with a Germanic feel, the interior is superb, the systems much more advanced than the GTO. It's also more muscular in the flesh than pictures convey. There is a sinister sophistication about the TDF.
If I had to sell one today it would be the GTO, but only because I've not explored the TDF. However, based on initial impressions, I have a sneaking feeling the TDF will prove to be one of the greats.
The GTO is Big Chris in Lock, Stock. The TDF is Dickie Roper in the Night Manager.
