While Fosker's I believe are having a laugh right now, if they do sell it for anything like their asking price I'll be on cloud9
Now sold - and it's time to take up residence on that cloud! I'll give you a call.

Ed @ Foskers
Congrats. But to be honest, when a ratty Porsche 993 is 100-200k, why wouldn't a 599 GTO be half-a-mil? Compared to some other crazy prices of other cars, at 480, I reckon that GTO was a bargain smile

Because you can get a new F12 for less...

Indeed. And give it another 12 months and the gap will be even greater.
As one Ferrari dealer said to me recently, the 599 GTO is much the better driving experience

Very different cars and by many accounts. The earlier car is much more desirable.

I was in Dick Lovett on Friday and they had a classic 911 for sale. The mate I was with had just sold one very similar to it, but with half the mileage for less than half.

It seems to me that anything old or potentially going up in value has gone absolutely mental. This is not the thread for the question but I do wonder how sustainable the rises are.

But the same argument applies to any old model Ferrari, in fact any old model at all. Why pay 1mil for a Miura when you buy a new Aventador for 30% of the price...?

I don't see why the 599 GTO's wouldn't continue to climb in price just like any other ltd edition Ferrari. Plus, don't forget the 599 GTO is the LAST Ferrari to use the mechanical F1 gearbox, which a lot of my contacts on the continent reckon is going to be a big big thing in a few years time, closely followed by the 430 Scuderia....

Given the wretched global macro-economic forecast, the rises are very sustainable. This sounds counter intuitive but perhaps isn't when you consider the distribution of wealth since 2007. I understand for example in Europe, 1% of the population now owns 28% of total European wealth. It's the same in the US and other regions. Inequality is growing and it's the middle class that's being squeezed. The super-rich aren't gaming the system but they have the cash available and the investment mobility to secure certain asset classes at the flick of a switch. Just look at this forum and FerrariChat to see how information is travelling rapidly. For sure the overall picture is extremely unhealthy for the long term well being of our society. Policy makers especially in Europe are timid and reckless. But for certain asset-classes like scarce cars, there's plenty of cash in the system looking for a safe haven, and given the crap outlook, for many years to come.

As for dealers, they're pretty crude market makers and this does distort the market IMO. I've watched the huge jump in F40 prices in the last 12 months, and now 599 GTOs as dealers attempt to spot the Next Big Thing, and push accordingly. Not surprisingly even the more mainstream dealers are now joining the party so while I believe the market is very sustainable, I expect dealers to become more competitive and middle man margins to be squeezed sharply.

this exactly, i agree.

personally if i had a few spare pounds, i would buy up every testarossa RHD that hit the market. You could then easily control the market price... its not hard to achieve, as apparently has been done on the Stradale already.

£ 900K? Hilarious, which ad please? That's F50 and top F40 money. More realistic for the 599 GTO is high 300s for LHD, and high 400s for RHD.

Just looked up ad. Nice car, RHD. Assume owner meant to hit 4 rather than 8. £ 499K would be a punt but a punt worth making. Like I said, £ 900K is hilarious.

Dick Lovett have just sold the TDF 599 GTO they had advertised at £350k in under a week.
This is now up for £700k with 2K Miles on the clock. The market has gone bonkers, but I think its down to the dealers. I hope Camlet you still have yours.

Whichever SCD member bought Tamara Ecclestons car with 221 miles on the clock for under £350k must be absolutely laughing all the way to the bank right now! (He was looking at CGT and that 599GTO for an investment). Unfortunately I think at this level of the market people are looking at cars as investments rather than things to properly drive (although I appreciate a fair few like to properly drive which I applaud) but its just mad to think the Price has doubled in just over a year!

I bought it and you will be pleased to hear I drive it. Done 1600 now and taken it back to the Factory this year. Great car. And will continue to drive it don't worry!!
