Stunning. Madness to think at the start of this thread, 26 months ago, it would have been arguably less than half the current price.

It is stunning though.....

You see in that Blue it IS my perfect spec...But when I know I can get one @ half the price LHD nigh on immediately and it's not over 10,000 kms, it's never justifiable to pay so much just to have the steering on the right. Lovely regardless.

Of course it's justifiable because nothing connected to cars is rational unless you drive a 20 year old banger because all you need is mobility. Is a RHD GTO less sensible than a LHD GTO, sure. But when did sense that matter to hardcore petrolheads?

Assuming you want something very special, very rare and you have the funds to execute, the RHD GTO is completely justifiable to the person buying it.

At the risk of being stoned and burnt alive I just don't get the 599 GTO. It never got rave reviews over the standard 599 ( as the Speciale has over the 458 ) and doesn't have motor racing blood like other GTO's. It's just a tweaked 599 built in low numbers with the GTO moniker to entice.

Stoned, burned and buried in a pit of slow action flesh eating bugs. You're wrong on every count. It's not a tweaked GTB, a tweaked GTB was the HGTE. The 599 GTO shares much with the 599 XX and if you don't think that's a car with "motor racing blood" I give up. The 599 GTO is a stunning car, it's a beast. The F12 tdf will move the game on but the 599 GTO combines awesome presence, incredible sound and handling that isn't for newbees. I'm fortunate to own a Speciale and it's arguably one of the sharpest, most agile cars I've ever driven. It's Floyd Mayweather Jnr. My GTO is however Tyson and Foreman rolled into one.

At the time it was the fastest and most powerful Ferrari ever built. It toppled the Enzo (and in my opinion looks so so much better)

Love the Tyson & Foreman rolled into one analogy! Couldn't agree more. The 599 GTO is off-the-scale desirable. The video of Steve Sutcliffe caning it through a tunnel is one of the most lol automotive clips I've ever seen. The sound alone is worth the asking price. If F1 cars still sounded like this we might all still be watching it! Anyway, here it is in all its glory for those who haven't seen/heard it. Just go straight to 1min 40sec and enjoy....

It was the sound that first caught my attention. When they were relatively new, I was walking in Victoria in London and heard a car coming that I thought was very close to an F1 car. It was Traxx in his white 599 GTO. What a sight, what a sound.

From that day to this, the GTO has been the very top of my wish list, kind of the motoring equivalent of love at first sight. If I am ever in the position, one would be in my garage at the earliest opportunity.....

Can't agree more about the sound. I heard one in Knutsford before I saw it and I didn't know what it was, one of those jaw dropping "wow" moments when it appeared. Probably the best sound I've heard from a car.

IMO the Speciale was very disappointing. I drove one thinking it was going to be like the GTO was to a standard 599 and it wasn't. Just too quiet for a start. GTO is a great car (though not an 800k car IMO) but the Speciale is a bit of a let down.

I'm intrigued. What else about the Speciale did you find disappointing? I for example, would change one or two things. In particular the first six gearbox ratios are too short.

Unfortunately the sound was by far and away the best thing about the car imo
You couldn't manage two laps of Silverstone without the brakes overheating

Its all very silly but this video has me in Rome back in 2011

Judging from particularly strong demand here and abroad your view of the Speciale isn't shared. Didn't you have a problem with the dealer supplying yours so you passed on it at the start? Regarding the retail price for a RHD GTO, I agree any asking price around 800K is very optimistic. But whatever price is correct, it'll still be comfortable ahead of a UK GTO's 330K original price.

It's a big car and will work the brakes hard but not heard others complain on fade. Appreciate you sold your RHD a while back but what was wrong with it, folks here and abroad seem to love them?
