It seems that the offer of 550's is drying up rather quickly. I remember 6 months ago there were over 40 cars on offer and right now its 13 including 1 barchetta.......
I noticed that. Was chatting with a classic car dealer friend, he's has had an influx of punters looking for 550's over the last few weeks.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...
This car is £225K. When I titled this thread it was tongue in cheek. But 18 months later it's happened!

Amazing prises made today. Don't believe that the proceeds of the 550 were going to the RNLI. Only the sales of the 250 and 275 were. Might be wrong.
Sorry, can't find the results online. What did the 550 go for? I bought my 550 in 1999, it was 12 months old, one previous owner who optioned a FHP, and it was UK supplied. Cost me 125K. By 2002 it had dropped to 25K trade. It's my first Ferrari and apart from being a beautiful car to drive, and to look at, it's not going anywhere for sentimental reasons alone. Miles today 25K.
But it will be a big cherry on the top if she's back to anywhere near the money I paid for her. Many thanks.

I absolutely understand how the vendor would get satisfaction from donating to any charity and the reasons behind it. But I don't see how the charity angle would necessarily increase the sale prices yesterday. In my experience, purchasers at charity events bidding with gay abandon, normally want some sort of associated benefit. Usually showing off their largess or egos by spending company money to impress their mates I guess. A car auction is something different. Much more annonimity, with some astute business minds at work, with their own serious money. I think the 250 & 275 were bang on the market money weren't they?
I think (with regard to 550's) this is the way the market is going. If one had a spare £150k to invest, and you can see a clear ladder of possible returns ahead that includes 30 year old Daytonas at £1m, 40 year old 275's at £2m, and 50 year old 250's at £8m, it's got to be reasonable odds that a 20 year old 550 might give you a sensible return in the future?

I have a 360CS as well as a 550M. The 550 is just so much more regularly useable. The 360 clips cats eyes, you have to avoid any sort of road imperfection etc etc. The reason I mention this is that I can see why the 550 values are soaring. If you're going to buy just one 'classic', it has so many bases covered - performance, relative exclusivity, 'er indoors will go in it, relative reliability and even its looks have improved with age.

RHD are going from strength to strength, but it is noticable that LHD cars seem to have stalled (also applies to other LHD Ferraris for sale in the UK) - the same cars have been advertised for months.
A lot of the 550 LHD ads on here are for cars not even in the UK. A 14k mile LHD car that was POA and was £115k last week when I asked ask has just sold. The DK Engineering LHD Blue 360CS with 12k miles which was£175k ask has also sold.Cheib said:

Surely that'll break the £200k barrier!
Was £225k ask 6 weeks ago. Could be more now. http://www.speedmastercars.com/cars-for-sale/

Nest issue of Octane has a big puff piece on the 575M.

Definitely flavour of the month.

Thanks for the pointer! Oh how I laughed at the title of this thread....!
Didn't we all...I titled the thread in jest as a nod to a Challenge Stradale thread where somebody predicting CS's at £200k was widely ridiculed...and they are up to £300k now!I think the modern classics have got further to run in 2016. So sell fast!!!
My daily commute is along 5 miles of muddy Norfolk lanes. So I use my Renault 5! The decent stuff gets rolled out at the weekends and summer evenings. So difficult to put took many miles on anything really. But agree its important to keep the juices flowing on these cars.
The 550's don't seem to be too mileage sensitive though above 20,000 miles.

I keep thinking about selling mine but every time I look its gone up £20k ... madness
I suspect it will probably be the next Daytona, it could be because its winter but there are hardly andy for sale, it will be interesting to see what happens this summer ( i.e. number of cars for sale / v ones that actually sell !!)

Yes just checked. There are only 6 RHD and 7 LHD for sale. 550 is definitely flavour of the month. Not surprising as it's a relatively practicle, useable, classic supercar. I may also be wrong but I don't think millionaires were being created at the rate of over 200 a day previously, either.
Sure but still same number of millionaires for the daytona and the 550 - doesnt mean the 550 is not mispirced vs a rather rare car atm Given there are something like 1,300 F40s, by your logic they shouldn't be a million........

To be fair it is a very rare Manual. I think 95%+ were flappy's.
True, but that doesn't explain why you'd pay double for that compared to a 550 in the same colours...Madness.

Not wishing to split hairs but a 550 with the same spec and mileage would probably be £250K+.
Possibly true. Speedmaster Cars have the lower miles RHD TDF/Bordeaux 550 on their books and their current asking price is £250k (previously £275k?).http://www.speedmastercars.com
However, this one is clearly UK based RHD car so it's just guessing to say what an equivalent LHD 550 would fetch at auction, either in the US or in Blighty...

I suppose all we can be sure about s that prices are not going down at the moment!
Small point - The Speedmaster RHD TDF/Bordeaux 550 was previously £225K.

I wonder if I should have a word on the insurance value of my manual 575
Anyone suggest who might give me a good idea on value?
Ask Ed Callow Robert, but be quick, he's returning to the world of automotive PR in the next couple of weeks. I think £199k wouldn't be out of order and you should make sure you advise the insurer.Anyone suggest who might give me a good idea on value?
