one less F50

Saw a silver F50 wrapped round a lamppost near Northampton yesterday, half the hedge taken out for a good few meters. Don't know how much they cost but half the car was destroyed - couldn't have been more than 200meters off a roundabout exit too.

The driver was fine as far as I could make out, must have been the shock making him laugh standing by the side of the car whilst plod directed traffic.

Quite a sight.

When I drove past, the car was the other side of the lamppost from that picture and damage looked a lot worse, still pretty bad tho - should have stopped and got my own pic.

Was looking under one recently and they don't have 'regular' chassis do they? With the rear end appearing to attach to the bulkhead so that it would detach in an accident. Anyway it might mean it's more salvageable. Hope so; I imagine finding another silver one might be a challenge.

I think the engine is a completely stressed member and is indeed directly attached to the bulkheads, with the rear suspension attaching to the engine/gearbox. Think one of the criticisms about the F50 was of excessive NVH due to this setup.

Which also means the engine was likely heavily damaged during this accident. Not sure how many spare engines there are lying around...

lowish speed ( the lamppost is still standing ), into a soft area ( no chassis or monocoque bits there ) hopefully equals ok, albeit expensive

+1 Likewise. I feel it's fairly planted and not too twitchy. Much much much nicer to drive than I expected.
