My insurers with the elise were Admiral. TBH they were fine. The car was totalled. Their engineer proposed a value which I disagreed with. They sent me a cheque for his valuation but reassured me that wouldn't go against any future value negotiations.

To prove my valuation, I pulled together a few ads from the pistonheads classifieds and sent them through. 3 days later they called me back agreeing to my valuation (which was about £2k short of the average trade advert, and was a few £k above the average private ad) - a second cheque arrived a few days later for the difference.

I then bought a load of driver training and got a Caterham, which didn't try to kill me.

You can go back and forth on the market value debate, but essentially they need to pay you what it would cost to replace your car with a similar one. If a similar one doesn't exist, get a valuation note from a marque specialist. Then stand your ground, or challenge them to source a replacement themselves.

Good luck, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

It's verde inglese.
It's a 47k mile 1996 GT manual.
I bought it 3m back.
Black ice on a bend - the rest is plain to see.
Fortunately, I am fine and got right out and walked away. Unfortunately, the car looks like it may be a costly fix.
After a day of watching onlookers swing by, photograph it, laugh, move on, and post about random stranger's misfortune on the web - I've lost a little faith in human nature. To the dust cart driver who stopped, checked I was OK, and reminded me its only a car; I walked out, and "life goes on" - sir, you are a good man. Thank you.
Glad you ok fella, feel for you. Been there, not good but makes you better driver.
