It's sometimes more than that, though, isn't it? It's about people damaging, in effect vandalising, your property. I don't know anyone who takes that lightly.

Two reasons really, its perfectly reasonable that some people can afford a nice car due to slow or no depreciation and therefore only running costs to pay. Add in a few excesses on insurance or full payment to repair damage caused by others and all of a sudden they can become out of your confrt zone cost wise.

Second reason theres not many things more important than time, and if your spending your free time driving to a garage to get a repair then that can be a drain on your free time.

Admittedly this would be fairly irregular but it still takes the shine off, especially of you do have the option of a normal car in the UK and something special where you dont have these worries.

The whole raison d'etre of the Gumball is surely this, metaphorical willy waving..

Having a banana yellow 997 (estate agent special C4S) means I also share the pain of incessant jibes and hand shandys. Ignore them. Ultimately you have a 599, they don't. You've worked for it, take satisfaction in other people's jealousy.

OP , with respect none of it matters, you still have the very enviable joy of a 599

I do understand how you feel regarding the insults etc but it is very much their problem and not yours

With regard to damage though that is thoroughly unacceptable and you do question sometimes if it is worth having anything nice

Regards

Thanks Splurge997 (btw, love a yellow 911), medieval, and all other posters. I was certainly pretty miffed at first, but I've calmed down. The 599 is at the Ferrari approved body shop and I'm already excited about getting her back next week and continuing to live the dream.

It's not the opinions it's the actions i got tired of. I would far rather fly under the radar although it would be completely different if driving in the South of France!

Enjoy your 599 when you get it back op.

I'm really sorry about the negativity OP and the damage to your lovely 599. Growing up I have always admired people with these beautiful cars, especially the classics! There are to many haters in this country and they would love to see you stack your car into a tree a gloat and point and say what an idiot but the truth is they will never own such a car because they are small minded and haven't got the brains to get their dream, I have worked hard to get my bright yellow F355 spider and I'm yet to drive it, will be soon though! Maybe a week. I have also been concerned about negativity and the haters and I will be so paranoid I won't take my eye off the car for a seconds incase the jelous asswipe keys the car or bashes a door into it!

Take a look at clarkson a review on the Ferrari 488 for Sunday times and I think you will find it a good read and he points out some very true facts about the British public and the haters.

Keep driving your dreams and don't let anybody stop you!

It's just the country we live in. For some unfathonable reason people in the uk to prefer to see people struggling then doing well, crazy! The complete opposite is the case in Asia.
Just try your best to enjoy the cars you have, who cares what others think smile

Today I was driving through a village in my McLaren and pulled up to let an oncoming car pass a long line of cars that had reduced the road to single lane.
As he approached, he wound the window down, put his hand out the window and ....

gave me the middle finger.

I actually laughed. Hows that for courtesy.

Wow, that is seriously well done retaining your cool there. Laughter is absolutely the best riposte to such rudeness, although it's not easy to do in the heat of the moment. Bravo!
BTW, love your stable of cars. Superb.

Thanks Steve. The 599 is epic too. Never really understood comments that it was too wide for the roads. I hope you get a trip into the mountains with it. The noise of that V12 bouncing off the cliffs is a noise I will never forget from my time in the Picos du Europa.

This is what puts me off having a nice car again.

If it isn't wood pigeons stting all over my car then it'll be some idiot knocking into it and it being a nightmare to sort out with insurance etc.

For now, in my battered old Audi, the itch to have something high powered again isn't quite there, mainly because I encounter such said idiots on a daily basis!
Err - get your car paint protected? Then let all the birds in the world have poo on it - and it just comes off!

Sorry for resurrecting this post, but I have had two wker hand signals shown at me for no reason at all since I picked up my Ferrari a couple of months ago, it does make me laugh really why they feel the need to do it? On the other hand I have had lots of positive reactions and it has been a talking point outside pubs ect. I still will not take my eye off it though and find places that I can sit yards from it.

Sorry to hear that.

Some people are just jealous and want to offend you/ruin things for you. Perhaps their life hasn't turned out as good as they hoped and a Ferrari is way beyond their reach so they want to reduce your pleasure of ownership.

Whatever it is just forget it - at least your car wasn't damaged.

FWIW, I hand the "coffee-bean shake" sign in my lowly Porsche.
I was simply overtaking (not hooning, I hasten to add)....

Tbh, I was more surprised that a total stranger had got me summed up in such a simple gesture.

I was reading the different remarks on people's comments about having luxury expensive supercars , I have owed many cars over the years from Astin Martin DB9, Ferrari 599, Bentley Continental , Porche 911 turbo and a Lamborghini huracan , but being honest I really never enjoyed driving them and parking them on the roads because of the idiots about who were jealous of you because you had some thing better than they could ever dream of .
I was more than happy to know what I had in the garage and had more pleasure just cleaning them . I have lots of friends who fill the same , the state of the roads from pot holes lose stones alone the roads.
But the funniest thing that happen to me once when I was pulling out of a junction a young lady in her mid 20s was watching me pullout on to the main road where she was walking alone the payment suddenly lifted her top up and gave me a flash of her boobs , she was a big girl aswell !! , I laughed and said to my self should of brought a super car years ago !
Sad really you can't enjoy your hard earned cash and working really hard with the stress of running 3 businesses for the last 40 years.
