My Ferrari's always elicited far more negativity from strangers than my Lamborghinis for some reason.

Sorry to hear that.

Some people are just jealous and want to offend you/ruin things for you. Perhaps their life hasn't turned out as good as they hoped and a Ferrari is way beyond their reach so they want to reduce your pleasure of ownership.

Whatever it is just forget it - at least your car wasn't damaged.
the reality is supercars are very flashy and unnecessary, swanning around in £200k+ on wheels upsets people because they perceive it to be an arrogant display of wealth. People pay their £200k mortgage over a period of 25 years! it is what it is and i'm personally not offended if someone makes a wker sign at me

I must just be really lucky. I drive a rosso 458 spider and a nero 599 mostly in West Sussex and Surrey and I never get any of these assorted hand signals (or maybe I need glasses and just don't see them). Every Ferrari I have ever owned has been at some time left in public car parks (M and S Shoreham and Tesco Pulborough are favourites) and I've never had any damage or adverse comments. I've had plenty positive comments but I'm yet to receive a boob flash. Here's hoping (and also hoping that I haven't now tempted fate).

I've only had positives so far in my 9 months and 7k miles in my Maserati GTS. I've left it in some dodgy places too with no problems so far. Women do seem to love it, but haven't had any flashers yet!

Yeah there's a good reason for that:

Maserati's should offer the best probability of achieving it

I've found this a very interesting read. I've just put a deposit on a 599 and collect at the end of the month.

My friend who's had ferraris for a while told me I'd get called a tosser a lot. I like to think ill just shrug it off, "I've still got a Ferrari and you've got a juke" or something... Hope I do. Hadn't realised it was so common.

Clarkson article is a good read, I like the last paragraph. smile

Once in 6 years of TVR ownership i got the coffee beans, and never in various obnoxious Japanese sports cars, vantage or 911 turbo.

Will be interesting to see how it goes. It's weird though, it's probably the same people that gawp through the windows and wander around the forecourt taking pictures of the cars at a dealer, watch top gear every week and love clarkson that do it.

Hey ho. I'm looking forward to joining some of the supercar outings.

Don't worry. As previous posters have said, encountering the 'haters' seems to be a rare occurrence. I've certainly had no other such experiences since the 'bad day' that started this thread. Lots of love for the car, though. I must say that owning and driving a 599 has been an absolute joy and you are in for a real treat when you collect yours. Out of interest, which car did you buy?

Weird one today.

Went to tescos it get some lunch in my Lamborghini. As many of us do I parked as far away as possible from the shop in the quietest corner. On my return I could see a note on the windscreen under the wiper. I st myself and immediately assumed someone had hit it and left a note pretending to give their insurance details. Thankfully that wasn't the case but someone had taken the time out of their day to write me a note saying:-

D!CKHEAD!!!! WHAT SORT OF PERSON BRINGS A CAR LIKE THIS TO TESCOS????

Yes, how dare I drive my convertible car, my pride and joy, on a sunny day!

The mind boggles.

I think when people see a supercar, they assume lottery winner or some other easy route to money... what they don't assume is that the person in the drivers seat has usually sacrificed a lot of time, hard work and dedication to get there.

That said, I live in Ireland and had a Mk2 Elise for a while and as they are quite rare here it got a reaction most places it went, but it was overwhelmingly positive. People waving or smiling or taking photos. I did fear leaving it places unattended though a fear that was confirmed when I came back to it one day to find someone had taken exception to it and thrown a bag of chips over it rolleyes and the time a drunk on the footpath shouted how he'd hate to be driving a car like that smile

Neither really bothered me too much as I say the majority were positive, its just a few dheads that try to ruin it and yes it is down to jealousy.

It's really quiete remarkable how some tt has taken the time to right you a little note, what a loser! You are a braver man than me leaving your pride and joy in Tesco's car park, I never take my eye of mine and only take it to places where I can sit metres from it,
I'm extremely paranoid about anything happening to it.

Last week I had a pedestrian give me a thumbs down as I drove past. He was maybe late teens, early 20's. Cool looking guy, on his own, not out to impress anyone. It actually shocked me as it was the 1st negative experience I've ever had in a Lambo. Then it happened again this afternoon. Passenger in a white van just casually gave me a thumbs down out the window as I was waiting to go onto a roundabout. Odd gesture I thought, I could understand getting the finger or the old favourite but a thumbs down?! A bit tame, like they pondered whether they liked the car or not and then wanted to show their disapproval. Every other experience has been positive including letting a little lad sit in it today whilst his mum took a picture smile

From a biker, this generally means the BiB have a speed trap up ahead.

It is a VERY odd gesture to get as disapproval these days.

Last weekend I happened upon a parking space right outside Wagamama's (sorry, not befitting I appreciate but the kids and I quite like it) and as we were early the waiter sat us (after complementing the car) in the window so it was difficult not to notice my FF parked right outside. I was staggered by the amount of attention it got, people stopping to look at it, both young and old, take pictures etc. no one spat on it, no one touch parked into it, those that noticed appeared to be pretty positive. I suspect a lot of people genuinely didn't know what the car was thus their attention, but given this was in Tunbridge Wells, which is a pretty affluent but conservative area, I was surprised how many people stopped to look at it.

I think it really comes down to luck. You can meet idiots everywhere at any point of life, super cars or not. World is full of ignorant and jealous tossers.

That said in mine which is not exactly discreet (red with Nart stripe) I got mostly if not all positive comments. It certainly attracts a lot of attention but kids litteraly love it, you can see they haven't assimilated the bitterness of their parents yet. They point, they stand with their mouth agape.. It makes me really happy to oblige them with a wave.

I had truck drivers on the motorway in traffic asking me to rev the engine in traffic.. And thanking me with their horns.. All sorts really. But mostly positive I have to say. Maybe they see me in the 4 point seatbelt and think it's a proper driving tool and not a show off car. I don't know.

But with other exotics I did get the off waving hand and similar. Oddly almost always when overtaking safely. In this country one thing I have learnt is that people DO NOT WANT to be overtaken. No matter if they are driving along at 30mph on a superb open country road, you cannot overtake. Strange. In Germany people throw themselves in a ridge in order to let you pass...

I have had my 599 HGTE (Grigio Silverstone) for over 3 years and c17,000 miles and had one chap be rude about my solo sexual activities as he cut me up on Hammersmith roundabout in his van. Apart from that it has been extremely positive everywhere I have been in the UK and Europe.

On Sunday I went for a long drive to nowhere around Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire etc and the engine, acceleration, steering and noise was just fantastic. Yes I know if I bought a 675LT I could go faster and if I bought a Atom I would have a more "absorbing" experience, however you know what, I wouldn't have wanted to drive anything else that day, it is a wonderful car with the most amazing V12. We are all lucky to drive one.
