Morning,

Looking at the 456 GTM Saxton 4x4 have for sale. It looks lovely and I'm waiting to hear back from Saxton about the service history, but wondered if anyone on here knows the car, etc. Believe the reg to be LJ51YEU

Many thanks in advance,

William

I don't know the car, but it does look nice.

The Daytona seats are far nicer than the standard seats.

There's no pictures of the dash or steering wheel (other than in the 360 view where the steering wheel looks fine); just make sure the leather hasn't come away from the dash. Although you can live with this, it doesn't look great and can cost several thousand to fix properly. Common fault around that time due to the glue they used not being adequate.

I'd definitely have a pre-purchase inspection done prior to purchase, the cost wouldn't be significant but could save you a lot. Contact the Ferrari Owners Club and they should be able to put you on to someone for that.

Mike Wheeler at Rardley Motors sold this car to its fourth owner in July 2016. It was supplied new by HR Owen and serviced by them up to 2009 then Lancaster 2011 to 2016 (when it was on 28,300 miles). I don't know about since then. Saxton's first listed it for sale in November 2017 (37k miles, £70k). Reduced to £68k in February 2018. Reduced to £66k in March 2018. Reduced to £65k in April 2018. Reduced to £63k in May 2018. Reduced to £61k in June 2018. Reduced to £60k in July 2018. Reduced to £59k in August 2018. Reduced to £57k in September 2018. Reduced to £55k in November 2018. Reduced to £51k in January.

Jings, if you wait long enough they'll be paying you to take it away. hehe

Thank you for that info. Saxton have really reduced the cost of it over the last 18 months. At £50k I think they look good value. Would definitely look to get an independent inspection done. I use Miglorie Bromsgrove for my 355 and sure they would have a look if I asked them.

May well have to have a drive down soon and have a closer look at it.

Ha ha! I guess you could read that as they've always been just behind the curve in their reductions, but now £51k sounds pretty good, assuming it's as nice as it appears. I looked at a couple of 456's recently (I'd have probably checked this one out at this price) but ended up going with a 612 in a private sale and which had experienced a similar cooling of value from its last purchase price a couple of years ago. Collect in a couple of weeks. Woohoo!

this car is also an auto not a manual, so it should actually be listed as a GTA not a GT..... if it was a manual it would be worth a lot more as autos are a lot more common etc.....

Worth taking a look at Saxton reviews. There are some absolute shockers. I wanted to buy an RS6 from them recently and a independent chap I had looking for an RS6 for me strongly advised against it. I read their reviews and decided against them. Then a mate put a deposit down with Saxton on a Range Rover with the clear instruction that it would be returned if he decided against the car for any reason when he went to see it. He did decide he didn't want it and had several weeks of wrangling to get his deposit back.

On balance there are lots of good reviews, but I get wary of any bad reviews quite frankly.

Saxton - historically at least have a terrible reputation ......can’t say whether they have cleaned up their act.......the struggling to get back deposits is the same story that I have heard for years. Cars prepped terribly and missing keys / service history / numerous faults and all the promises given but once they have your money they seem to stop caring.

Personally just having doubts about them would make me look elsewhere especially when spending sizeable amount of money. Could be a pain in the bum and no one needs that!

As way of an update. Went to look at the 456 last week and it was very nice. Condition of the car inside and out was great. A few of the switches inside were going sticky but this is a common issue on Ferrari's of this era. The leather on the dash and rear parcel shelve was perfect. A really nice combination, black on cream and having Daytona seats added to that. It had only done 30k miles, not 37k as advertised. It had a massive history file with it detailing all its service work back to when it was new. If anything it needed a good polish and a service (think it was last done in September 2017), but hasn't done any miles since then.

Took it for a drive and i was left feeling a bit cold. Could be because its an auto, but it just did nothing for me. And it was really quiet, nothing to let you know there is a V12 in front of you. Just not for me.

That said, if your looking for a 456, I would highly recommend looking at this one. Really nice example and at £51k, I think good value. Would be amazed if these drop much further.

And I can't fault Saxton. Salesman was very polite and helpful. Nothing too much trouble.
