Which Ferrari?

First post here, mostly on the Aston Martin section. Please forgive me if this has been asked before. Am lucky enough to be thinking of a Ferrari for 'investment' purposes. I have a ten year plus timeframe and am fully aware of the implications and consequences of buying typically depreciating assets as investments.

So, to those in the know, if you had GBP50k to commit would you go 308, 355 or 360? These would be my three options.

I'm at the early stages of my research, and to date have only decided it might be time to fulfill that dream of owning that Ferrari. In my possession the car would be meticulously taken care of and would be driven regularly, though not as a daily driver.

So I guess, possibility of capital appreciation is the main question? The ultimate decision will be made a little further down the line but any comments at all would be very much appreciated.

Good 308 prices are past 50k already.You will get a good 328 GTS and I think that is a worthwhile alternative to the cars you name.
Personally I'd go 355 for the best combination of looks,driving experience and chance of future appreciation.Being the entry level model prices are never going to go really silly but a gradual upward drift offsets annual costs when doing the man maths.

I agree - there's a couple of good threads a week or two back which ferrari for £ 40 000 which drifts towards your budget and cover similar ground

Whilst there is still money to be made on both the 308 and 328, I would find it hard personally to accept that you are a year too late on both counts. The next one to start rising on the V8 front will be the 355, the 360 will soon after. If it were my money....whilst I love and would prefer the 355 for a number of reasons, I'd go for the 360 and as a spider, why? They are now the cheapest they will ever be.

Thank you for your comments everyone. I'm getting closer.....(long night of research last night!)

Now looking like a 360 Spider, LHD/RHD? Colour - Rosso Red or Grigio Titanio? Ferraris should be red, Aston Martin's grey, no smile

i think it will be a while for any proper growth for 360's

I have a 360 but for any worthwhile increase it would be a 328 355 or pay a bit more and get a 550.
I would like to be wrong though :-)

Like the 246, then?

The 308 gets frequent nods for one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made and yet is still dirt cheap set against cars 10 years older. In Ferrari terms they made a few but hardly any when compared to a 911, say. And way fewer & over many more years than the 360 iirc.

In a 10 year time horizon, I doubt a 360 will appreciate at all. At best it might stand still. I'd buy a 328 in your position.

RHD, Red with Crema, sub 20k miles, FSH.
Everyone will have an opinion and will tell you how a model will not rise in prices because x,y and z. But.........I remember the same arguements for Dinos, they were basic money 10 years ago...now.......re-mortgage to get a good one. Oh and 308GT4s, I remember looking at a good one at £12,000 and everyone was telling me, it's not gonna make money. Good ones now £40k. Then you have the testarossa, sold my 328 for one "oh you don't wanna do that" it's now doubled in three years. Bottom line, if its got a Horse on the front, it'll do alright.

Load up on 365 gt4, 400 and 412 then on that basis.

Yes like the 246 which after 40 years is worth the same as a new entry level Ferrari.

Yes, after 25-30 years the self same 246's were pretty much in fabled Mondeo territory. I suppose it's about the definition of really silly.

I would concur. And the fact that you say pay a bit more (than £50K) suggests that you are not wrong: I paid a bit less, and that was only 18 months ago. 550s, like 308/328s, are on the way up. 355s still seem to be fairly static, but on the point of moving up, whereas 360s are unlikely to see any growth for a few years yet.

Barring the super rare / expensive, the V12/2-seats formula seems to be the key to capital growth among Ferraris. Also, and this is a purely personal point of view, the type of Ferrari that turns me on.

You can get a Ferrari 308 GTBi / GTSi under the £50k budget, so that would be the best buy as a short term investment. They're also fantastic to drive and cheap to maintain! They're also very pretty cars!

The 355 is the best for driving and a mix of looks but you wont get as gooder return as an investment.

The 360 was too mass produced for them to be an investment. Personally I'm not a fan of the looks. Yes they're quicker than a 355, but get the 355 remapped and it would be every bit as quick and better to drive!
