Help with Ferrari 328 GTS targa roof
Discussion
Not trying to be funny, but you said your car had 28k miles when you bought it, hardly a high mileage car. So what happened to the original roof clips and lining??? They are not items that usually fall apart or disappear. Just sounds a bit odd to me.

Sorry to hear it's gone wrong. My dealings with Tom have all been fine. If you bought it through eBay you should be able to lodge a claim under "Item isn't as described" if Tom has not responded favourably to a request for a refund. It is quite clear in his original ad he was selling it as a top for a 328 so if it is for a 348 then he really doesn't have a defensible position under eBay's rules. You should be able to get a full refund including shipping costs.

Hi, it came from a private collection and the guy who owned it never got the original top from the person he bought the car from even although it was promised it would come. He bought a roof shell with the intention of putting new clips and lining in but because it wasn't used on the road he never in 14years got round to it.Edited by Aero8 on Wednesday 9th December 12:21

Thanks. It's been a big problem. Just waiting on him getting back to me then hopefully it's sorted. kerr205 said:

Thats a pain, he had 14 years to think about it! As you've found its an expensive and difficult part to replace. I hope you get it sorted out.Edited by Aero8 on Thursday 10th December 16:55
Kerr205: Sorry to hear about the grief you're having with this roof panel!
I feel bad now for not actually looking at the linked Ebay add when it was posted as being for sale, as I can tell from the pictures that it's a 348 panel and not a 328 (348 latches are on the front edge - 328's on the rear edge as you've since found out).
Sorry buddy! - I might have been able to save you a lot of grief there!
(Considering who the seller is, he's been in the Ferrari business long enough to know that that's not a 328 panel! - I wonder if it's an error by one of his staff who didn't check the part properly?)
From what I know of the seller, he spends quite a lot of time away from "the shop" which can make getting in touch with him a bit difficult - Even for Ferrari owners in the USA, but from what I gather he's a decent enough guy to deal with (normally - Not sure if you've found it to be different).
I notice you've put a thread up about selling the roof panel(which I've also posted in), and it would be great if you could sell it for more than you bought it for (including the import duties, VAT etc., - I know how much they can add to the cost having bought a 348 folding targa roof panel from the states!), but I'd also give the seller a decent amount of time to sort in out with you.
I Hope you get it all sorted one way or another and do not end up out of pocket, and again, sorry for not spotting the 348 roof panel at the time!

It's been a huge saga from start to finish but I'm finally finished. After I wrote the last post a nice guy contacted me to buy my "wrong 348 top" he drove up to me which was around a 550mile round trip and took the top. He was so happy with the condition apetc he vowed to help me find a 328 top and sure enough sourced a mint one very quickly for me!
My dealings with Tom Shuaghnessy have been utterly terrible. He's not been of any help and shown virtually no interest at all. I have two brothers who live very close to him who are going to pay him a visit to talk it over soon. My advice would be to steer well clear of him if my experience is anything to go by. Luckily I kept the original advert to show him when he suggested I got it wrong and bought the wrong item but didn't make any difference even when he was proved wrong!
I appreciate your comments 4rephill and no problem at all especially now it's all worked out.
