All I wanted was someone to pick him up from my house take him to the church a couple of photos on arrival at the church and that's it no waiting around simply to the church only... Yes I am willing to pay for fuel and time ... But they i was only asking clearly there are not many good hearted people out there , if I had and was able I would. . Thanks to those who would but I understand distance makes it impossible

why a mug..... I enjoy driving my car, if I did this, I'd be driving..... all she's asking for is maybe an hour max of my time..... also, I am happy to share my car with others, even if it means giving them a ride..... I've given upteen strangers a spin around my way...... I've always loved lambos, I know what it was like to be on the other side.....

a good friend off here not only gave a stranger a ride in his f40 at one of my meets, he let him drive it FFS! because he could see how much it would mean to him..... no money changed hands..... I don't think what a mug, I think what a hero.....

You're not going to be 'driving' your car. You're going to be fking around in a church car park while people you don't know pose for photos.

If you want to share your car with others, phone a kids hospital or respite home and offer to take some kids out, or at least let them have a proper look around it in the car park if they're too sick to be out on the road. I think you'll find that far more rewarding than letting some middle aged bloke pose about at his wedding in a car he can't afford to even hire laugh

You seem unwilling or unable to address the insurance issue though ?

Please excuse me but I have to ask just who do you think you are? Not a very nice person as far as I can judge...
Sorry I don't normally post this sort of stuff, but plus 1. Some people are privileged enough to own some great cars, whilst others are not. I don't see any harm in you asking and if people can't help, that's fine. But to be obtuse and arrogant about it is just plain bad form in my view.

Hope you find someone close enough to help.

Its as bad form as expecting people to come drive you about with no insurance laugh

If you don't like the way I worded my responses, then fine. Go read Muzzer79's post, all the points in it are as equally valid.

Anyway have a nice day at work everyone, I"m off out for a drive in my Lambo wobble

That's what people who really get it do, if they think you might too.
Years ago Piet Pulford let me drive one of his Miuras. I was in my twenties.
It's been Lambos only for me ever since.

I think what people, are trying to point out are practicalities:

The owner would have to:

Keep the date free - cancel any upcoming plans, etc in the middle of summer
Clean the car before going
Drive to Stoke on Trent
Hang about picking your son up - pictures, etc
Drive to the wedding
More pics on arrival
Hang about during ceremony
Potentially more pics afterwards

Then leave and for what? Fuel would be covered by the couple of hundred quid I presume you're willing to pay but what about time?

There's then the very valid question of insurance.

There's a reason why hire companies charge so much for something like this. Whilst I understand you wanting to do something to make your sons days happy, you can't expect someone to give up a morning, etc for less than the going rate when they don't even know you

Charity is different. You (and your son) are, I'm afraid, not a charity case.
It's not necessarily about charity. It's about realising you're fortunate enough to be in a position to own a car that has the potential to make another's day, and being decent enough to want to give someone that pleasure. (I'm speaking as a mere 911 turbo owner who managed to make a few people's days by letting them experience the car - doing so was amongst the best experiences I had with the car. Felt a bit like payback for when the odd kind soul had done it for me when I was a kid)

..and to offer explanations to your 'points of practicalities':

"Keep the date free - cancel any upcoming plans, etc in the middle of summer"
You wouldn't cancel any plans - if the date isn't free, you wouldn't offer to do it.
You make it clear that if they want a guaratee to keep the date free, they go the hire route. You can, however, promise to make a best endeavour to attend with no guarantees

"Clean the car before going"
(1) Cleaning a supercar is a pleasure
(2) Car likely to be clean anyway

"Drive to Stoke on Trent"
(1) I would only expect someone in the area to offer to help
(2) Driving a supercar is a pleasure

"Hang about picking your son up - pictures, etc"
Shouldn't be much hanging about to do. Grooms tend to get to the church on time. Make it clear that the car will be there at xx:xx, departing at xx:xx (whether he's in it or not) and can stay for xx mins at the destination.
All perfectly reasonable stipulations.

"Drive to the wedding"
How is that a 'practicality consideration'? That is the task.

"More pics on arrival"
So what? All part of it. Having your picture taken isn't exactly a hardship

"Hang about during ceremony"
No need to hang around after dropping chap off

"Potentially more pics afterwards"
See above

"There's then the very valid question of insurance."
Yes, a very valid point.
So you ask that they make a reasonable donation to a charity. I don't think that will count as hire/reward and therefore not affect insurance. (or no charity donation - just do it to help make someone's special day)

The bottom line is that doing something nice for others should be a pleasure.
And KFC, whilst I only have (had) a 911 turbo, you've 'only' got a Gallardo (great cars - hoping to buy one soon - been on my dream car list for 10 years), so it might be worth you losing the 'billy big kahuna' attitude.

Again, I'm absolutely happy to spend my own time and money using my car for worthy causes.

If you want to show your car off and make someone else happy, go take it to a kids hospital or a sick children's respite home. i.e. a legitimate worthy cause, not some random chancer from the internet biglaugh

To be honest, I doubt she'd be interested in a base model Gallardo wink.

Well this has turned out horrendously.

KFC, we get your point - you won't offer your car and think anyone that does is a mug - no need to go on about it. If someone wants to do it, let them. Why personally attack someone you don't know?

What Colour biggrin

Everyone is privileged with different things in life and I don't think the OP asked abruptly, demanded or indeed has become a keyboard warrior no matter how many times KFC poked to try and stir that response by repeating the same things in a certain manner. Cheeky to ask perhaps but if you don't ask you don't get and people put themselves out there for their families.

I was once told 'Money cannot buy you good health, your genes decide that for you' followed by 'Remember Karma can be a b*tch' I got the message of what they were trying to tell me.

This is my problem, I'm always telling my kids, "if you don't ask you don't get" so I could hardly tell anyone off for doing the same.

Apologies for KFC's attitude Margaret, he comes across as a complete c**t to most of us as well.
