We should remember the early Ferrari F1 models are manual cars too. We set out looking for a manual F355/360 a few years ago and ended up choosing an F1 360 because we were 'open minded'. Prices were the same just two years ago and to be honest, the F1 cars are fab. Clutch life doesn't have to be an issue unless you're commuting through the city in it every day. The clutch pedal cars are being talked up so much by owners so much that the market ends up being swayed in the way we're seeing today.

Perspective owners are sometimes new to forums, often being told what they should buy and it leads to the prices of certain models being pushed up. Each to their own I'd say but for me at least, I'd choose to drive the F1 version, rather than talking up a rapidly appreciating manual car sat in the garage!

To be honest, I dont think its that they're being talked up by owners, I think its because flappy-paddle gearbox's have come a long way in the past few years.

The older systems in the gallardo/Murci, 355/360/430 are old tech in comparison to the new systems in the Huracan and 458/488. I think its because if people want a flappy-paddle change, they want a good one - if one isn't available, then they'll get a manual.

I agree, they have come on in leaps and bounds over the last decade. Using the 360 as an example, people only consider the early system to be lacking when compared to much newer machinery, it's still very good and I assume it's a similar case with earlier Lamborghini models? smile

I love my manual coupe, but I'd really love a manual 550-2 or a Balboni. But at £100k over the value of my present car, I think that I may sadly have to pass.........

For me it's manuals all the way. I love the interaction. The Huracán is blisteringly fast and the gearbox is an engineering masterpiece, but I think that it makes the car uninvolving to the point of boring! It looks like Porsche has seen its folly of only offering the GT3 with the PDK box, offering the GT4 with a manual only. I think that the time will come when dual-clutch 'boxes will be the norm in everything bar superminis and the more dedicated sportscar manufacturers will once again offer manuals on their more "driver focuses" products. At least, I hope so.....

Having run F1 gearbox Ferraris for 8 years and thought the flappy paddels were great until I upgraded my manual Porche to a twin clutch this showed the limitations of single clutch so much that my Gallrdo had to be manual. I believe that if the twin clutch had not been introduced as with many owners I would still have been satisfied with single clutch.

Depends if you want a slick, hi-tech shift with a DCT, or a slower, involving shift which makes the engine revs undulate. One is boring, the other old-school - you take your pick....
