I hated the tip box in the Porsche; awful. Its effectively an auto with buttons. I drove an LP EGEAR a couple of weeks ago and its excellent. Its a manual box that is automated. Really nice shift to it. Sounds incredible. I personally wouldnt buy a manual anymore given the choice. The only issue with the LP egear is that I think the paddles are a bit small!
I see! So in sport or race mode, will E-gear kicking feel occur mostly in lower gears (e.g. 1st to 2nd) or on all 6 gears? Or does it feel like say a BMW manual that has rev matching for a smoother ride?

I also noticed the E-gear paddles being a bit small. Is quick shifting an issue when driving in twisty roads where you change directions a lot? The AMG also has short paddles but since it's mounted on the steering wheel, I jeasy to reach and I just got used to it.

Thanks!

In normal mode the change was reasonably smooth. It blips the throttle on the way down the gears. In the racer modes it becomes faster and more aggressive on change. Personally I like feeling the change rather than the new seamless DCT boxes (although that wouldnt stop me buying a 458 if in could find one at the right price). As said above it feels very similar to 430 F1 box. I preferred the egear to Pdk. Although all of this is very much a personal thing though.

The paddles aren't fatal; they just need to be bigger. I found a place that makes bigger ones though so I would just add those.

Never had an issue with the paddles personally but I guess I adapted the steering technique a little to still be able to reach the paddle I wanted to grab next.
The auto blip changing from 3rd down to 2nd is awesome and you find yourself doing it all the time just to hear the noise.

Modern day DCT's are so fast and smooth some of the change gear sensation has gone. Like I say I think the middle ground for speed and sensation is the superfast II F1 box of the 430 scuderia.
Personally for me the E gear is a little slow and clunky these days and the addition of a DCT in the Huracan was a big step forward. The Huracan Performante is even better again and I find it hard to believe that any further improvement can be found with these gear boxes now.
Appreciate huracan may be out of your initial budget but prices have dropped and the gap isn't that big for a substantial change of car - old gen to new generation

Thanks for the positive comments! I haven't driven an F430 yet so couldn't compare. But good to hear that E-gear is satisfying as Tiptronic was a big disappointment for me (while PDK excellent).

About a Hurracan, it is indeed very beautiful but it's out of my budget as even a slightly used model will cost almost double an LP Gallardo where I'm from.

The only model I sometimes think of is the new Audi R10 Plus as even new, price is much closer to a used LP Gallardo. But I find the R8 a bit lacking in charisma even if my mind tells me that its a much better buy (better performance, DCT, the latest interiors, etc).

The blipdown from 4th to 3rd to 2nd to 1st in the SL2 and LP is sublime. Worth it for that noise alone.

Never you mind

I always have the car in corsa mode and flat shift most of the time, Love the brutality of the gear change. It's only when moving in traffic that I might lift my foot when changing gear.

Can't understand why the e-gear gets any criticism.

Ha, I like your approach, but my co-pilot and allegedly better half complained about getting a headache due to the lack of cushioning on the CF seats.

I'm in agreement, I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with egear but perhaps in full auto mode it is a bit clunky.

As all the above comments the downshifts are a wonderful thing, fully converted me from manual. Anyway each to their own but enjoy yours in good health.

I also had a debate with myself in respect to a new V10 Plus vs. Late LP560-4. I went for a Bicolore, and believe me - the theatre, drama and sense of occasion (smiles per gallon) would never be achieved with the Audi. The R8 is obviously a well accomplished car, but it is very dull and simply does not turn heads.

Also, i for one, think the E-gear is awesome. Very engaging and always puts a smile on my face when i feel that thud at the back of my neck. However, completely agree, at low speeds, it can be a bit clunky. I had a 911 Turbo S before my bicolore and the PDK was sensational, however lacked a certain level of charisma.

Anyway, here is a picture of my current car, shes a beaut.

I love the egear in my SL. Just drive it like a manual without using a foot clutch.
Absolutely the case with the F1 equipped Ferrari's.

So beautiful! Gallardo in white is my favorite color. Finally had a chance to test the LP being offered but sadly, the ride was too stiff and interior space too cramped for my comfort so I had to pass.

I was also able to drive a late model 1st gen Audi R8 V10. While power and transmission are probably similar. And even if the Audi was actually a much more comfy and practical (with more cubby holes) car, the Gallardo just felt more special.
