Simple question really but is there any down side to jamming the butterfiles in the exhaust open? According to Lambo Pangbourne it doesn't effect the warranty so I can't see there being any but thought I woud just ask on here first.

Perhaps a tiny bit more torque. Some say it can set off a CEL light, due to changes in back-pressure. Makes the car for some a bit noisy and droney on long journeys. Some do it for a while, get sick of the racket, and close them again.

The valves on mine had failed when I bought the car but I didn't know, it was only until I had them changed I noticed the difference, you will notice the difference on start up and run down with cracking and popping which was nice

The CEL light came up on mine and that's how I found out they had failed.

It did take a while before it came on, I think if you jam them open eventually the warning will come.

Thanks. I like the idea of the exhaust cracking and popping.

Agree with the other posters. I had a CEL after having them opened (after 2 days). I didn't want the risk of having a CEL on and not realize there was a real issue. So I had it put back to standard. I've gone down the route of fitting a Larini with Sport cats and the sound is even better. In regular mode it works in the same way as the stock but sounds much fuller at lower revs.

It'll sound like a tractor all the time. Needs the 3k revs to sound right in my opinion smile

I swapped out the standard exhaust on my LP570-4 for a Super Trofeo Exhaust. Costs about 5 grand in all, including fitting so a bit more than a Capristo or Larini, but reassurance of OEM quality and no issues with warranty / goodwill in the future should anything horrible happen. Sound is mind blowing, given the original was outstanding. Plus you get 5% extra BHP and Torque...and a further weight saving around 20kgs.

I swapped out the standard exhaust on my LP500 for a Mk1 Superleggera exhaust. Cost exactly £155 on eBay. Fitting required a bit of thought as the chassis and mounts are subtly different on the SL, but the guys a Pangbourne had fun doing it and it cost less than a grand fitted, so still much cheaper than a Capristo or Larini and reassurance of OEM quality and no issues with warranty / goodwill in the future should anything horrible happen. Sound is mind blowing, given the original was dull-as-dishwater. Plus you get 5% extra BHP and Torque...and a further weight saving around 20kgs. Possibly.....
