Gallardo... what's the catch?

Yeah looks a good car. I’d initially written off an e-gear but seemingly they’re not as bad to live with as you’d be made the believe, so they’re on my radar. But, alas, a convertible isn’t despite this being really good value.
Yep, ditto. I'd rather a coupé. I just am not a fan of convertibles. Why don't you want one?Re e-gear, you just need to check how far the clutch has gone by doing a driving off test - set off in first gear and a fresh clutch should hit 1500rpm and no more. Every 100rpm above equates to something like 20% reduction in clutch life. (Or it might be the other way round - 200pm = 10%, please google this.)
Then learn to drive e-gear as a manual in Sports mode for the quickest shifts. ISTR that lifting off the gas between gears can help preserve clutch life, too, and NEVER drive in Auto mode. I think traffic is to be avoided where possible?

I really like the roofline and the silhouette of the coupe and you lose this if you have the spider. Yeah the e-gear advice you've stated is what I've seen, read and heard from the research I've been doing. In addition, when approaching a junction etc, select neutral as opposed to letting the engine do the braking and wearing the clutch out even more.
Even still, a replacement clutch and flywheel are 'only' about £4K and if you follow the above advice it can prolong the life of it.
Have a couple of cars up for sale now so I've taken the first leap toward Gallardo ownership.

Blue leather interior too, which looks horrific. I'll be avoiding this one with a barge pole.
I have been in the lookout for a Gallardo coupe as well. The said car description has also been altered when the price was reduced. Previously the ad stated that a full engine rebuilt was done 20k odd miles ago by vision motorsports. I am not sure why this had to be removed. They believed it would have a possible impact on the sale?
Re e-gear clutch: yes, keep it in neutral when coming to a stop and stationary. Avoid hill starts and minimise reversing. The replacements clutches for pre-LPs are an improvement on the originals so should last longer. Any decent indy or main dealer can give you an accurate clutch wear measurement. And a slight lift-off when changing gear gives the best experience.

Hi David, I slightly prefer the look of the Gallardo to the Huracan and liked the idea of a more limited ultimate version. I went to see the green car right after viewing a fairly well used R8 and just fell in love with it. It wasn’t really a super carefully researched purchase if I’m honest! But I’m very much looking forward to getting it next week.
Congratulations Julian,Brilliant car, love mine, I was told recently be a fellow owner that currently only 14 on the road in the UK.

Didn't know about the deceleration tip. Thanks!

I agree with the roofline but you know what's funny? I've come to like the silhouette of the cab. It has a jet fighter vibe about it. It's a shame it isn't a hardtop CC!Yeah the e-gear advice you've stated is what I've seen, read and heard from the research I've been doing. Another thing to be aware of when you think you are driving in manual using the paddles, when driving along approaching a slow and tight bend at approx 30mph in 3rd, when the revs drop to about 1300, auto cuts in for you and changes into 2nd.
Once you appreciate this will happen, you can anticipate the change and do it yourself, but if you are a fraction late whilst concentrating on getting around the tight bend, you may do a change and the car does a change and you'll find yourself in 1st!
So change down a fraction early.
Also, if you coast towards a roundabout in neutral whilst slowing down, once you pull the paddle back it will autoselect the right gear for the speed for you.
