I don't mind the new layout for browsing, IMO they have just added the search/filter to the top. still behaves like the original to me.

however, the only gripe I have, and for bedtime reading (browsing) it is annoying, when moving pages, any page, a cursor automatically goes into the 'keywords' box, which on a tablet automatically brings up the keyboard.

why does this need to happen?

Droid/Firefox if it makes a difference.
We haven't done a lot of testing for Droid tablet because there aren't many of them out there. However I'm sure that we can get this sorted for you and we'll add it to the niggling bug list.

Not being able to host larger pictures in the body of the advert is a real step backwards frown

This, frankly. The new classifieds' filters are a vast improvement and are much more PH than (obvious comparison) Autotrader's. I admit though that I rarely browsed so I havent noticed any change there.

I suspect many of the complaints are similar to the ones I made following changes to the mobile site, which I eventually had to admit were an improvementredface

ETA a reply to SPS's comment on the other thread:

Hi Bill - well for one it allows for another charging mechanism, two - it gives advertisiers opportunities to expand their sales options, three - it allows for a greater flexibility in multiple platform interchanges, four - it gives greater scope for branding and product placement, five - opens opportunities for rich media profiles etcetera. Anyway it's far too late in the evening to discuss this stuff in detail - talk to someone in advertising - nunc est bibendum me thinks.
Have a good un.
Steve
Not sure I understand what you're getting at with most those points, as I don't do marketing wink

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, its possible to set that as one of your filters?

We didn't *officially* allow this on the old site to be honest, because there was a tendency for some people to upload massive images which broke the site.

We've decided not to do this on the new site for a couple of reasons:

1. It doesn't make for a great user experience at all, and can really slow things down, particularly if the embedded images are big files.

2. We have bigger images (than anyone else in fact) on the new site, a less intrusive watermark and you can have 12 images now rather than 9.

This and the stuff we've done to help people to find cars to fit specific requirements more easily (particularly where there are thousands of a given make/model on the site) are good things, no?

I have noticed you have posted several times on this thread with negative comments on the new classifieds. I am yet to see a constructive comment that helps us improve the classifieds to solve your moans.

We welcome all comments, good, bad, and ugly but if you want to help the site get better - help us help you.

could get used to the new system but it just gives wrong results :

1. Browse make and models give 2 cars for TVR - S Series

2. Choosing from the Alphabetic list there seem to be 19 S-series

3. If you select the 19 cars, there's also Chimps and other models ??

What am I doing wrong ???

It would help loading if you optimised some of the PNG's and scaling thumbnails from full size images will not help either (I know someone is looking at the latter)

Yes the pictures are larger but they are poorer quality.

Why the massive inconsistency in the UI between the panel on the homepage and the actual Classified tab ?

We're looking into this, but couldn't replicate it exactly - for us we can see 19 cars in results, with no filters applied. Had you used a filter at all? We're wondering if there's a filter which had been applied but then hasn't taken itself off again when removed.

Tried "browse makes and models" again
Checked : TVR
Checked : S-series
No further filters !

and now it gives 19 as well !!;-)

Then the only problem left is that the 19 cars also include chimps and cerbs ???

I have an ad live at the moment and can't log in any more, its quite annoying.

The second point is very likely to do with people either listing them in the wrong place or some small migration niggle (to give you some insight into why that's difficult look at S Series on the old site. It says that there are 9, but when you go into the category there are around 24, with many listed as sold).

We're looking into the filters issue but don't think it's a biggie. The migration stuff we'll also look at.

Worth saying at this point that the decision to switch over the home page links (the old site is still live) was so that we could push more traffic through the site and uncover more stuff like this. The good news is that it is coping with all the additional traffic without breaking sweat (not a claim we were able to make last time) and any constructive feedback such as the stuff you've given will help us to smooth out the last few humps.

So cheers thumbup stuff like this is useful and will be acted upon.

Just takes much much longer to switch from Porsche to Aston. As an example, every little thing you press the page has to reload, making the whole site slow and very hard to use on a ipad.

I really dislike it.
How is it more than 2 clicks?

Steve,

We can get this done I'm sure. I'll be honest - there aren't many people who've asked for it before now so it probably hasn't been prioritised over some of the bigger jobs we needed to get done after the last launch.

However it is useful functionality so we'll add it to the list of things to look at now that we've got the lumpy stuff done.

Stuart
Thanks Stuart,
I thought lots of people would use the function like i do,guess i was wrong.I do keep trying the new classified but im not very pc but will keep trying to get use to it.

Hardly anyone uses it, and to be honest once you click into a make/model it shows you everything anyway. However we can see a use for it so we're going to give some thought as to how best to replicate it.

Some of the other suggestions made (sort by year, etc) can be done fairly quickly, and will be.
