I'm getting this too, Google Chrome on a Samsung Galaxy S2 over wifi.
Goes away if I use the full site but us on every page of the mobile site and makes PH unuseable.

I've just had this problem on a friend's Galaxy S2. I found a solution for my friend's phone, so I registered to post the solution for everyone else to try. This should work for every phone, including iPhones.

Possible Solution

Check your mobile browser's homepage. That is, when you open the browser (i.e. Safari, "Internet", "Browser"), CHECK THE ADDRESS OF THE PAGE YOU SEE FIRST. It's most probably a page looking similar to google, but it's address is not google.com but something entirely different (like mobirewards.com/landing/yadayadayada).

TO SOLVE THE ISSUE, edit your browser's settings and set your homepage to google.com again. This will stop the ads from appearing.

Background

The fake Google homepage executes your search, just as Google would, but then it shows these annoying ads before actually sending you to your destination. So while it seems like the page you are visiting is posting the ad, it's actually the fake google site. Getting rid of fake google therefore stops all these ads.

Cheers,

Felix

So why does it only affect PH?

I access the net and then go onto several forums but this is the only one with the problem.

No that's not what's causing it but it sounds like it might hijack some android systems as well

Agree, this is incredibly frustrating and seriously detracts from the generally positive experience that is PH.

I'm unaffected. I assume deleting cookies etc wont resolve for those affected?

I have tried that (Iphone iOS6, from my home network via wifi) and it stops the problem temporarily, later it will manifest itself again. Im just going to block the domain via my router - I dont get this via 3G, only when connected via my home network. Im guessing my mobile provider (O2) 's content filtering is better than my home firewall.

@PH towers - any update as to where this came from and what you have done to sort it ?.

Since switching to Google Chrome with Adblock I haven't had any attempts at pop ups or redirects. Not sure it'll last but so far so good.
