WTF has happend to pH
Discussion
Over the last few months every thread ive posted in has ended up in a complete bh fight between 2-3 members it's happening so much now when u can tell when a good thread will go bad like the whos not fitting winter tyres thread which after page 4 turned out into a argument over them.
I used to post a lot in the first 2 years i joined but recently can't be arsed to post due to knowing what you will say will be twisted and picked apart by grammer police or idiots wanting an arguemnt.
There was a time you could have a disscusion about a subject and not turn into a full blown argument but over the last year it gone so bad ive stopped posting apart from a few threads mainly about the btcc.
So can the moderaters actually do something instead of banning people for incorrectly posting wrongs pictures, videos etc ban the members who continue to cause arguements.

The ones that really annoy me are the closed questions.
There was a thread today (I forget which) which had a bus driver comment on how he couldn't pull out and was driving 'properly' as he had management on board. The next post went along the lines of... "Oh. So you drive differently when your boss is on board?"
What is the point of that, other than trying to impose superiority? A lot of people here do seem to have a superiority complex,
People always pick up on something - mostly not even something integral to the thread - and question it, as if the original statement is wrong.

Not wishing to cause offence but I thought one of the rules of PH was no "text speak" and a thread is titled with such.
Indeed what has happened to PH?
I see an acronym / letter homophone, a spelling mistake and talk of acidic / neutral / alkaline solutions but no text speak in the title.Indeed what has happened to PH?

PH hasn't changed. You have. You've reached that point where it was all fields and friendly banter. The reality is, it hasn't changed much, because people haven't changed much.I used to post a lot in the first 2 years i joined but recently can't be arsed to post due to knowing what you will say will be twisted and picked apart by grammer police or idiots wanting an arguemnt.

Think yourself lucky- there are some of the old timers who still wander around these parts aimlessly looking for conversation related to something called 'TVR', whatever one of those is.
I disagree, I think PH has become a much more troll-ridden place in this past year or so. It isn't confined to the newer and younger members either. Quite how you would measure this in objective terms, I am not sure, but even the most genuine of postings often degenerates into someone being disgusted / outraged / plain rude. This is inevitable in the longer threads, but it seems to happen before the first page is even complete now.

I'm a new member and I can see that some of the more prolific posters started to believe their own bullst, some clearly sit on ph 24/7 and some feel the need to have an input even though their input is really not necessary . The guy who posts on every single thread and then moans that his son is somehow distant is probably my favourite "character". His son clearly doesn't know his dad wks over whatever hambites/Welshpork / siberian driver or whoever said on a Internet forum
Is a ban coming my way?

This. And - I will admit some (a lot) of my posts have been crap. I've come on here and posted stuff that there was no reason to post. The reason (not excuse) is that when I've posted I've previously been busy/ stressed/ annoyed so my posts are often shockingly bad; I go on PH in those times because it is non-physical and interesting and the mind is transported.
In fact I think since I joined, the forum has nose-dived and not just because of newer members either. Also I think that some of the mods have had their work cut out and when I stand back, I'm not suprised that mistakes/ poor judgements are made - and they sometimes are in my honest opinion.
It really isn't the community it once was just a couple of years ago, and it's a shame if it goes much further because the place is full of knowledge, skills, interesting people and stories, banter (it was) and so on.
I now have a General Gassing page favourited from 2004. It changes every day as new stuff is posted now and the posts are different - better in a lot of ways but obviously sometimes out of date - predictions are funny to read. 2007 pages are a revelation compared to the stuff being hurled at each other now.
I hope it doesn't become like lots of the rest of the web (not that we venture there), PH was/ is special.
There's pedants, trolls, sockpuppets, tts, grammar nazis, bellends and tossers on here just like every other internet forum since the dawn of time. I'd say the general standard on Pistonheads is pretty good. If you compare the average thread on here to the average thread on The Grauniad, The Telegraph, or , God help us, Speke Yor Branes on the BBC - it's actually of a pretty high standard. Questions and debates will usually be answered or joined in with intelligent answers and you can usually get at least a decent bit of information before the nobbers turn up to ruin or derail it.

You still read General Gassing don't you.Drop it from your favourites, stick to the "specialist" forums you have an interest in, and most of the dumb ass posts you don't get to see.
If you do post on a thread in general gassing. Post and then delete the thread from "My Stuff". If it interests you you'll find it again manually. If not, then it's best to lose it asap.
I used to post a lot on certain sections but these days I write less for fear of beinng shot down in flames by someone who inevitably disagrees with me. It seems most people come on here for an argument these days not to share information. Many of the more knowledgable people don't bother any more. Oh and the search facility doesn't work anymore
