Is PH really sinking this low with advertising?

fking Santander advert!
Proper annoying me now.
Doing the exact opposite that its intended to.
Now pissed off with both Santander and PH for forcing this upon me whenever I log in.
Adverts that automatically expand like this and take over the screen can ps off.
.....and breathe >:-)
Well this is part of the problem. Not only are you pissed off at those two companies it also means you're more likely to install an ad-blocker.Proper annoying me now.

I think PH and advertisers should consider whether such intrusive adverts will have the unintended consequence that some people who were happy with the "standard" adverts will be "pushed over the edge" by these very intrusive adverts, to the point that they DO install an ad-blocker and see no ads at all. This means that pushing the ads too hard results in fewer people seeing them, which I don't think is what PH or advertisers would want.
I would assume that they have ways of detecting the prevalence of adblockers amongst site visitors and will be monitoring their use to see whether the new ads to have such an impact on users of this site.

On a serious note, a little unhappy that 3 pages in to a 'website feedback' thread and clearly some unhappy people and no response from the powers that be?
I think you'll find that the "powers that be" have no actual power, which is why this crap appears all over the site. It stinks though.Anyway AdBlock does the trick!

Cut/Paste the same response from all the other times it has happened."It's not supposed to happen, out of our control, we'll speak to the company that serves the adverts and make sure it doesn't happen again". And then it happens again 6 days later.

Ah, from the man himself in this thread - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/post.asp?h=0&am...
It's getting beyond a fking joke, I can hardly use the classifieds anymore because every time the ad appears it hangs the browser and the only way to cure it is to close it down and start all over again. I thought the Autotrader website was a pain in the arse to use, it's a breeze compared to this ste!! The reason I used the classifeds on PH in the first place was because it was dead easy to use, simple layout, simple filters. It's change for change sake and to justify somebodys salary in my opinion, all they done is fk it up even more than it already was!LeePH said:
For clarification in the forum there should be no automated take/over, expansion or noise ads.
In classifieds and news we are testing drop down at very low frequency with relevancy being the focus.

I've followed with interest this advertising saga as it's been ongoing, it appears the view of PH Powers that Be is 'Stop fking moaning and deal with!'.
Just use PH on your mobile. I rarely use the main site these days, adverts everywhere and the classifieds format just keeps heading further down the toilet.
Mobile version still has its simple pleasure retained though.
No point complaining really, it's a free to browse resource. No one really listens, just head elsewhere when it gets too bad. But in the meantime, mobile is where it's at
Mobile Auto Trader is also awesome, better than PH on all fronts now.
Why are these companies so good at design on mobile devices, yet st at designing full screen jobbies? Weird...

When I joined this site way back in 2005 the adverts were all car orientated. TVR dealers, mx5 exhausts and the like. Now it's as generic as any other site on the net (and being individual was always one of ph's strengths) and I am contemplating an ad blocker.
And today I see this:
We might not pay for the site, but can PH really state it knows its customers? Perhaps those from above would be kind enough to come on an explain their advertising strategy, because I suspect a lot of people find them not relevant anymore. We come here to get away from the rest of the internet!

4 days in and nothing?
Really?
I guarantee if someone said McCanns the thread would be acted upon in an instant!
Simply because us mods can act on that, whereas we can't sort the ads...Really?

i am fairly certain if they use google ads they can specify what adverts to avoid.
You can even specify what industries to avoid.
Just to try and speed things up i reported the OP to a moderator yesterday. Still nothing.

Sorry, but the mods can't do anything about the adverts that appear.
