Don't know. We'd have to consult the legal team.

There seems to be nothing in the rules regarding the posting of youtube video links into one, and only one, thread.

Big Al keeps moving videos like a man possessed quoting that the members requested that all videos be put in one thread.

I have no recollection of this. (That is not surprising, I struggle to remember last week). But could the mods/admin team point me to the vote where this occurred?

I assume it wasn't a recent decision? Does it stand inviolate forever or might we be allowed to discuss if a mistake might now be occurring?

Because although the original intention was (presumably) to stop people posting videos of cats or seeing the same clip time and time again due to the shoddy software being unable to show the preview view of a youtube clip that we all know and love from every other site we visit on the internet.

Regardless, the scattergun approach is, imho, no longer appropriate. The simple quality and specialty nature of some videos demands that they be posted in specific forums/threads because lots and lots of people are not going to go to a generic youtube thread where even if we accept that there will be some interesting stuff we all know it is Big Al's graveyard.

I suspect an outbreak of common sense is unlikely: so can you please clarify this within the context of the posting rules please?

Big Al.

There is no rule about youtube clips the rule is enforced because the members asked us to do so, members post a clip on a thread no content described just a link. Joe Bloggs at work opens said link he's now in a deep mire as the content is NSFW and he is now in it up to his neck as his boss was looking over his shoulder.

Youtube threads will always be closed and linked where there is an official Youtube thread in the forum, it's not going to change so get used to it and find something else to whinge about. smile

HTH explain. (again and again)

Agreed.

Actually, it doesn't.

The youtube thread is a catch-all thread with videos about everything from kittens to fighter jets.

When someone starts a thread, with the subject matter being contained in a youtube link, the notion behind it is that they want to discuss the video. That discussion then gets killed in fairly short order when you or another mod come along and close the thread.

Have you ever tried to have a meaningful discussion about something while a multitude of other posters are spamming the thread with off topic stuff? Coz that's what happens in the youtube thread - any discussion quickly gets lost among all the other stuff.

The youtube thread is fine if you just want to watch the videos, but if you want a decent discussion about a video, it generally fizzes out pretty quick - not least because the audience is limited to those within the youtube thread.

I'm with jimi. Sometimes a move to big als wasteland is appropriate. Other times there's a sensible discussion to be Had in a relevant forum

It would nice to see some thought before the move, but I'm sure my voice is little amongst the grandeur of the mods rooms....
