I would be interested to hear peoples thoughts on why this site is difficult?

For me autotrader is pretty useless as I can't search by generation number on 911's, M3's and so on i.e. you have to view all 911's or m3's.

On PH you can search E46 M3 and then search CS / 964 911 and coupe.

On Autotrader I would have to search over 10 years old on he 911's and look at 1000 996's.

The only thing I don't like on the PH classifieds is the check boxes on the drop downs when using an iphone. Why is everything selected as a default and then my fingers are too fat to unselect and then re-select 1 option.

I prefer the new classifieds. Not least because the old one, for some inexplicable reason, used to be trigger the firewall at work. The new one doesn't.

Use the auto trader search bar more effectively then smile

For instance, if it's an e46

Search M3s, then say limit the age bracket to up to 10 years old & use 3.2 in the word search. Hey presto

That would miss out those from 2001 - 2003. Over 10 years and the same search would bring up e36 evo's.

How about finding a 1990 911 (964) manual coupe?

Now that the new classifieds have gone through the bug fixing stage i think they work quite well to be honest.
I can refine my searches to a specific car much better than on Autotrader and have just sold one of my cars through PH.

Admittedly i found that the phonesafe option was putting people off phoning me but when i removed that i got a few calls and a bunch of emails.

A few scammers amongst them but they are easy to spot.

I still browse to see what certain cars are worth and how many are for sale, and the fact that there are a lot of cars on there suggests it still works well.

Just my 2p, I think the guys have done a good job.

So why do classifieds STILL crash my safari browser ?

If it don't work on iPad then it is a monumentally flawed product for the target market, any mod care to address this long running and oft reported MAJOR glitch?

Or are you just ignoring your customers?

I'm going to revise my opinion actually, I gave them a good proper go on my desktop tonight. The key for me was ignoring the myriad options at the head of the page, and scrolling down to the alphabetical list as per the 'old' fieds. So I click on a make, then model, as per old school fieds. Then, you have the vertical bar on the left to fine tune what you're looking for. It actually works pretty well and feels like using them in the old way.

It works fine on my Safari, firefox and on chrome, I don't use a tablet so i can't check works on my phone too though.
I do use an ad blocker though, before i installed that it was clunky.... perhaps something like ghostery might help you?

As I posted above, if you're having issues, see if they are the same here:

It's basically the same format.

I remember Autotrader messed their site up but a few tweeks and although not as good as it used to be its much better now.

PH classifieds is ridiculously crap, it never seems to find cars and is counter intuitive, ads everywhere. It used to be great now its shockingly poor.

I just use ebay and occassionally autotrader now.

The poll does not lie and this is a long time into the new format so its not just a case of people not liking change. Its simply crap.

I've changed the way I use the classifieds. I used to browse through them, just ambling around. That's a PITA now - takes too long. So I have my favourite cars all picked, showing newest first and a button on my favourites bar. One click per day is all I need. Hardly a ringing endorsement.

Like so many others posting here, I find autotrader much, much easier to use.

Oh, and the adverts are getting out of hand.

Nearly a screen-full now. And ones that pop-up if your cursor accidentally lingers. It's out of order.

I would like to point out that the mods are unpaid volunteers to run the forums and do not have a say in the ad policy or product development of the classifieds, so they would find it hard to answer that question.

Also, the feedback of our users is very important to us and the poll (though flawed from a statistical point of view as stated in my first post) is of interest to us, along with all the other forms of feedback we have for the site (Dealer sales, user behaviour, surveys, forum feedback, face to face meetings). And this feedback is a mixture of anecdotal and statistical data.

The best measurements of success we have are volume of stock (those that see PistonHeads as a place to advertise to get response and sell their car), and the amount of emails and phone calls an advertiser is getting about the car (which no doubt all will want when trying to sell a car). These tell us a lot about the user experience as well as the functionality of the site... and both those measurements have improved since the new design was put in place.

The difficulty is that the classifieds has changed its nature over the past 8 years and has moved from an editorial experience (click through tonnes of cars, browsing for interesting things) to a faceted search experience. The latter returns better conversions for the sellers, but does change the way it use to be.

The move to more touchscreen devices is not something we have kept up with as well as some of our competition, and they have the advantages of development teams 100x the size of ours, but still not an excuse - we will endeavour to try and improve the phone and tablet experience, so hopefully you will find it better over the coming months.

Hopefully you find the above useful, and comment away, we still read them all.

Personally I wouldn't have a problem if that's all it was. However when browsing on my phone the thing constantly crashes. Also the list of Marques now is infuriating. Is there any value in showing the ones which have no listings?
