It's shame that this thread was closed due to the ego of a moderator.

Ego?

More like having a change of heart thrown back in my face.

Kinky, I would have used this thread as an example of the reasonableness of PH moderation - ie that a decision can be revisited to come to the appropriate outcome. Re-closing it because of a quip seems a little unreasonable and hardly throwing it back in your face, indeed there were other posts that explicitly addressed the reasonableness of reopening it.

What about the words "Power to the people!", an obviously tongue in cheek statement, warranted a locking?

Closed again?

Jesus Christ.

What posting rules have been broken now?

If there was a smiley to go with it, or somesuch, then yeah, absolutely tongue in cheek.

But at face value, certainly not.

End a 2,000 post thread because of this? Really?

So you closed the thread because you were offended? Not being an arse but I didn't realise that being a moderator empowered an individual to do any more than enforce the forum rules. Now, had their been an actual violation of the rules to permit a locking, then fair enough, but to close a thread simply because someone said something you didn't agree with, and didn't preface it with a smiley - is that in the moderator code? Closing the thread just seems a bit like settling a score in public by saying "I'm a mod, tough st", so you can probably see why the use of mod powers in that fashion gets people's backs up.

Just saying like, no need to get wound up, but even if it did wind you up, did it break the rules, and does your personal offence permit you to lock the thread? Other posters on PH can't get a thread locked because they don't like what another poster said.

Please tell me if you think I'm being out of line about this, I'd like to think that in Website Feedback we can engage in open and honest dialogue about these issues.

Quite.

A power trip. Nothing else.

Pathetic.

Mmmm sounded tongue in cheek too me, do we really have to use smilies to convey context?

I think you may have over reacted a little bit Kinky as it sounds like Rob's "Power to the People" line was referring to his Website Feedback topic and that he meant it in a 'common sense prevails' rather than a 'Put that in your Pipe....Kinky' manner.

The whole thread had just become as cringeworthy as anything it had tried to take the piss out of tbh.

It had to die eventually.

It's not a matter of being offended.

I felt I was doing a positive thing by unlocking the thread. Then to have 'Wolfie Smith' (not my quote, but quite appropriate) comes along and fecks it all up for everyone.

So status quo - and thread re-locked and to be honest, I really wish I hadn't unlocked it now. You do what you feel is the right thing.

Quite tiresome.

And for the record, I don't delete posts or lock threads because of any negativity. I can handle that; absolutely no issues with that whatsoever.

But when billy bigcensored comes along spouting off power to the people - well, that's past the line in the sand.

I tried. I really did.

Except you're the only person who seems to have been offended by the "power to the people" comment, so on that basis, shouldn't you let it slide? The thread was locked because Sc0tt impersonated a mod, and you said there could be legal ramifications. You were questioned on this, to which you have yet to reply and locked the thread. You then saw the wrong in your actions and unlocked it, because the irresponsible actions of one poster were independent of a 100 page thread. But now, with little other justification, you've locked it again, saying you felt it was right the first time you locked - the initial locking, because you were annoyed about someone impersonating a mod.

If there is any other reason that you first locked the thread, I'd be interested to hear it, especially since you've reverted to the original locking being "justified".

It's got feck all to do with Sc0tt impersonating a mod. It's what happened afterwards that's the issue.

With an impending court case on this, I'm not sure it's right or appropriate to comment. Particularly as I don't have all the facts (although that does not seem to stop some people). My first priority is to protect PHers, and this is what I'm doing.

Then having 'Wolfie Smith' appearing all knobbish, where on face value, appears that he's got his way in having a thread re-opened. How does that appear to other PHers who read those posts and make assumptions.

Why don't you ban those that you take particular offense at and reopen the thread then?
Thread pruned, individual thread ban and thread opened.
