Thanks for listening! - As stated, we don't mind adverts - just intrusive ones or those that slow the page down etc. excessively and detract from the experience of using the site. smile

It has now gone.

It was a test campaign ran by our ad ops team to see how effective that type of advertising was - I have had words and they will not run these tests on the site again.

Thanks Pete, I don't think that the people in charge of approving ads realise how much they are alienating their readers!
(Not that those in charge care)

Why don't you run them by the users ? - We could vote. have a test area? i realise that most would say 'no ads' but if you said - its going to be one of these 5, make a choice or shut up then maybe you'd get some decent feedback from those that actually use the site on a daily (hourly) basis?

"The sopranos, the complete collection" comes on everything I open a thread. I have to browse PH's with my volume off.

argh, I hate ads. Nice article about F1 at Brands with a nice vid to click on and lo, some old bloke in an advertising vid already running in the middle of the article.

How much does it cost to get an ad free version of PH?

Otherwise, I'll just go away.

The giant asda advert this morning in the classifieds is absolutely terrible. It's so off-putting and as it scrolls with the ads it doesn't even justify properly. Really tacky.

Not the point.
Also should work the same on all browsers

To put this in context we have over 160 different browsers using PistonHeads
Some like Chrome have around 800 different versions of that browser accessing PistonHeads
So the combination of browsers and versions (before I even go into operating systems) is around 10,000+
We cannot test all of these (well not without additional resource and thus putting display ads everywhere to fund it)

So I think the question is very valid and to the point of trying to solve the issue of this user having something out of line.

Interesting... and they don't have some of the ones we have like SeaMonkey, and even Netscape.

Netscape? as in the bundled browser that came with AOL from a free disk that you found inside computer shopper magazine ?!

surely its time to pull the plug on browsers that pre-date broadband ?

Netscape 4.0 no less - but people out there are still using it on the site - who knows why!
