It has now gone.
It was a test campaign ran by our ad ops team to see how effective that type of advertising was - I have had words and they will not run these tests on the site again.
Why don't you run them by the users ? - We could vote. have a test area? i realise that most would say 'no ads' but if you said - its going to be one of these 5, make a choice or shut up then maybe you'd get some decent feedback from those that actually use the site on a daily (hourly) basis? It was a test campaign ran by our ad ops team to see how effective that type of advertising was - I have had words and they will not run these tests on the site again.

argh, I hate ads. Nice article about F1 at Brands with a nice vid to click on and lo, some old bloke in an advertising vid already running in the middle of the article.
How much does it cost to get an ad free version of PH?
Otherwise, I'll just go away.

What browser and operating system are you using?
Not the point. Also should work the same on all browsers
Some like Chrome have around 800 different versions of that browser accessing PistonHeads
So the combination of browsers and versions (before I even go into operating systems) is around 10,000+
We cannot test all of these (well not without additional resource and thus putting display ads everywhere to fund it)
So I think the question is very valid and to the point of trying to solve the issue of this user having something out of line.
Interesting viewing from Wikipedia - number of browers/devices accessing their site. http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidR...
