Hypothetically lets say someone has a question on how to fix something and they post a new topic on PH.

This is met with the usual helpful post which just has a link to a similar thread that is a year+ old.

is that right? - surely technology and knowledge has evolved in the past 12 months and therefore a fresh discussion is in order?

Why is everyone so quick to end new threads on topics that have been discussed in the past? there are new users, new points of view?

Enjoy the Golf.

Yes, fresh discussion is in order, but doesn't it make more sense to add the new discussion to the old content? (so as to benefit from anything useful posted in the past)

I think it also points out that the Op expects to be spoon fed rather than prepared to search first and ask question later.

I'm trying to imagine what PH would be like if the same approach was used for the 10x daily what car threads

It's because PH has a search system of such weapons-grade precision that there is literally no excuse for not being familiar with all that has gone before.
