The all new ads malarkey is making browsing a pain in the backside, both on the computer and ipad style thinghy.
I write this as a non it-expert. Issue being a page is loaded, you are ready to click/touch, and all move about because of a new ad loaded. Or the ads around are so big the usable page is scaled down and unreadable.

Please please please, give me the option to pay and get rid of all the c**p. It is too frustrating, to the point I tend to avoid PH, but I cannot live without classifieds. I'm sure i'm not the only one on this and it shouldn;t cost too much to make a pay-per-view only version with not a single ad. Ah, if possible, get rid of the "you might like" because I ususally don;t.

well, less than a full magazine online. I'd say £10/15 per year? Members gets priority on some events (SS or similar). Low enough not to be a problem for people to pay, but enough to generate revenue give the numbers of PH members...

I don't know why PH doesn't do this. I run a much smaller site and it generates load of income. People mainly pay due to the site helping them in some way (we have DIY guides etc).

I remove ad's for paying members, as well as give some additional perks, it's a no brainer for £10.

If you need someone to run it, i'm available wink

tbh the new ads are making me use the PH front site AND classifieds less and less.

Its a total PITA. especially the new ones that circle the entire page. great. not all of us have 50million inch TV's so now the entire site isnt very readable. For the first time in 5 years I didn't buy my car from the PH classifieds as I find them a chore and extremely slow. Just as you click something a new ad loads and the whole thing moves so you end up clicking something you didn't want. I found myself surfing AT as it was smoother and easier to browse. sad times.

ETA: I'd happily pay a £10-15 subscription to get rid.

Ive been using Pistonheads for years and the new adverts are awful with both my PC and IPad having to wait for the size/re-size, having to cope with data bursts and lots of other things that slow the process up. Is it time for a new site for everyone and to get someone to start this car enthusiast thing somewhere else...........arrrrggghhhhh

I have limited scope in the type of ads that are served to the site, but we can look at the jumping around issue as best we can - so will put the main offending areas into bugs for the devs to look into.

Where we struggle is an ad slot which has dynamic ad sizes in it as it is served after the page is loaded, and we don't know if the ad is going to be 100px high or 300px high causing the jump.

Well turn the dynamic sizes off then!

I run a website with a forum serving google ads and I can control the sizes of adverts. YOU have control over the sizes served to your userbase, it's not random. If you ad provider is losing you custom, surely you make them make changes or move ad supplier.

It all smells a little bit to me. Why can't someone at PH just admit they are pushing their luck with the ad's and sort the bloody issue out!

So, this new site to replace PH, what to call it?

Yep, well aware of the control over the ads, but the decision of whether we serve various ad sizes into a slot is a decision of the ads team and commercial... that is what I mean.

So change it. This isn't something that started happening an hour ago, it' been going on for months.

If PH was mine, or I worked for PH, I'd be embarrassed.

I think you're confusing RacingPete (who's a techie) with someone who has the authority to change the Haymarket advertising policy. I'm sure he's putting across the views of the readership on the ad policy whenever he has the opportunity..

I'm not being funny but it is becoming a bit of a joke.

Just came to PH on my laptop to get this:

Then tried to log in and got this:

Is this really the impression you want to be giving new users? It looks so damned spammy it's unreal...

I'm Not bothered what position he is. Is there no chain of command? Can't he tell his boss if they are not aware of the issue?

Really isn't an excuse!
