Dear PH's,

It seems several dealers are leaving multiple adverts for 'SOLD' cars permanently in the classifieds section and therefore flooding the market in that section.
As a result a car I bought some time ago will be listed twice if I wish to sell it.

Is this right and can anything be done about it?

I will get the dealer team to look at this... if you have the specific advert that will be grand.

Check out Toybox in the Westfield classifieds, they have cars showing that sold up to 2 years ago.

I agree with you, it should be stopped.

This dealer never takes ads down which is slightly tiresome when looking...

Thanks, but this is an issue all over Pistonheads, not just with the category I've highlighted. It doesn't happen on Autotrader.

The problem is the price is left on permanently, I'm wondering about the legality of it also.

Can you imagine if Estate agents were advertising your house as SOLD with the price and pictures for 6 months or more to the world?

It does. My car was still listed for sale by the dealer on Autotrader over 6 months after I'd bought it.

I've contacted the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) for their comments.

How would anyone know how much you paid for your car?

What would the previously advertised price have to do with what you're then currently advertising it for?

I think the example of estate agents isn't the best, as they have previous adverts up (see this)

Also there are recent prices nearby, the ability to even show the price of the house over the years for what it was actually sold.

Also, the Internet is stored and with a bit of searching could try and find out the previous sold cars.

Though as said I have pushed this to the Dealer team and I am waiting for a response. But let me know how you get on with the ASA.

A few posters on a couple of Ford / RS forums have mentioned that RS Direct seem to have control of the entire "Focus RS" subsection of the Classifieds, as there have been times that they've listed a new advert and within 24/48 hours found it pushed back a couple of pages due to RSD bumping their ads back to the first page (which they've been doing for the past couple of years anyway).

I notice now they've now taken to leaving cars up that sold a couple of months ago, but bumping them back to the top with "Now Sold To XXX From XXX".

I'm with Pete on this. The ASA will piss themselves.

I enquired about this Porsche, from this Dealer.. in April...

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

and was told it had sold some weeks previously.
Hardly the crime of the century but not really helpful
