Have you guys ever thought about rep points that you could award a poster?
I've had such good advice over the years from some great guys and it could be a cool way of saying thank you.
On the flip side - the dicks on the site could get negs?
Or is that a bit too against the whole 'everyone is a winner' society we have now?

It was tried about 9 years ago IIRC, and there is still legacy fields in the database for it. At the moment it is not something we are considering....
But I am considering a features request system for the forums where you can vote for stuff you want built, and these kind of requests can feature in there, so if lots of people want something we will build it - won't be till the new year though!

F1Technical has this, and at first it worked a bloody treat. If you had a positive score then you could upvote another post, if you have 25 points you could down vote somebody elses post. For a few months this stopped the trolling/fanboys etc but after a while a couple of cliques would just upvote any old dross between them selves then carry on as before and downvote anyone they'd disagree with. If a post has more than 2 down votes it becomes hidden. The admin have tried to fix this and give you a drop down box with 3/4 reasons and messages the poster that they've been downvoted by XYZ because you didn't put their favourite driver on a pedestal- or something like that.
The other thing is that PH has a couple of weirdos who thrive on controversy and getting a reaction, if one of their posts received 3000 downvotes they'd have to urinate by doing handstands.
Same can happen on bb.com's system: click (rep points on left under username). The other thing is that PH has a couple of weirdos who thrive on controversy and getting a reaction, if one of their posts received 3000 downvotes they'd have to urinate by doing handstands.
On ft86.com they have a place to 'Thank you' at the foot of posts: click (after post).

I can immediately imagine two or three such cliques who would do exactly that. Gaz. said:

A football forum I use has this, but only the Mods/Admin are allowed to give points or indeed remove them. The other thing is that PH has a couple of weirdos who thrive on controversy and getting a reaction, if one of their posts received 3000 downvotes they'd have to urinate by doing handstands.
They also have a newbie forum and mains. Everyone starts in the newbies (which is one mass forum for all topics) if you are a good poster you accumulate likes and after a set amount you are promoted to the mains. If you then act like a cock you have them removed and are sent back to the newbies or are straight up banned. Its one of the politest forums I frequent
