We have removed the auto redirect for a mobile phone to the mobile site... so if you bookmark www.pistonheads.com you should see the news articles working again from the homepage.

I suppose it's just frustration because despite constructive criticism no change appear to have occurred.
Maybe, but the developers do a lot of work and are not idly twiddling their thumbs. Also they are not in charge of the advertising policy or prioritising the work that they do.

I am happy for anyone to aim criticism at a higher level (eg me - 8 years in I think I should have been sacked 372 times according to forum posts), we welcome it. But for a junior front end developer reading this, it is not very motivational for them to want to fix things for the forum members.

It's a mess, I stopped using it a while back, maybe make an autotrader style app for the used section? And make the actual online section much simpler, gumtree is a better example
I have been crying out for a Classfields app for so long!!! Can't understand why it hasn't happened yet.

When you browse the classified ads using the drop-down menu, the first button you press is 'All Makes'
Why oh why are there 197 (one hundred and ninety seven) car makes without any cars for sale??

I haven't even heard of half of them..I have to scroll down a fair way (and the box drops off the page mad) to find a Volvo of my dreams and they say first impressions count!!

Get rid of the dross by employing a more dynamic list - Please smile

BTW There are 126,384 Facel Vega's on the search counter (along with a few others..But, I'm sure you'll find them)

Is that a serious comment? Just how junior are these developers, 12?
If you are employing people who retreat into an unproductive sulk when they encounter criticisms from the user base then I think you may need to review your recruiting policy.

I am unsure how a statement like this helps, or how you are fully aware of how the structure of PistonHeads works that means you are confident that the solution you propose will solve the issue.

But happy to hear an explanation to support your remark.
I accept I was probably a bit ott with sacking remark...apologies. I was to say the least somewhat frustrated. However it remains the case that the classified section of the site does not work properly on mobile devices and since you seem to be the head honcho I suspect you should be aware of this. Can you advise when this will be fixed or if there is a problem with fixing it?

I never said it was an unproductive sulk, that is your interpretation... But there are a lot of unconstructive comments in these forums about a lot of stuff - it doesn't stop anyone working hard behind the scenes but it does for answering questions here that some may pose.

Why should anyone spend their out of working hours to comment here on behalf of PistonHeads if all they get is insults of being told they should be sacked (which is the comment I replied to)

I accept your apology. To make this constructive, what do you feel does not work about it, and I will try to answer?

Using iPad mini IOS8 Safari browser- Selecting "buy" on the home page, take you to a search page. I can select manufacturer but not model (no options), after selecting say "Mercedes-Benz" and carrying out a search I get 126k found vehicles random selection i.e. The search did not work. On the results page I can select the manufacturer again but still not the model. No search button. Something is clearly amiss here.

Also, with JavaScript enabled and ad blocking off I keep getting the AppStore opening- Game of War, the Guardian. It seems that Some of the ads on the site are misbehaving - can anything be done about this?

That fixed things thanks smile

However, when I go to the forum via that way, it comes up as the desktop site now even though the main page is sort of a mobile version?

That is not expected behaviour - we will fix that ASAP, and I will investigate how that has been released in that state.

Can you let me know what page you are on, and what ads are being served when this happens - I am trying to replicate this and haven't got it yet?

This is where we are bringing in our new skin (under My Preferences), which is a desktop view when on a computer of Big Blue, but an easier to read mobile view. At the moment we are improving this skin to make it work exactly like Big Blue, and a few tweaks on the mobile version.

I am having problems tracking down the offending ads as the whole Pistonheads site becomes very unstable when ads and JavaScript are enabled. The whole screen will often go blank but I did note some website jumps via adcash.com to several other sites before landing on some random survey site. The behaviour is very erratic but linked to JavaScript. Some of the ads are using JavaScript to takeover the site for their own nefarious reasons. One of the suspect ads I do remember from yesterday involved a missing number from a grid of numbers I.e. What is the missing number? I do not know whether that helps or not, but the ads do not seem legitimate product adverts.

The problems with IOS & Safari relate to Javascript - with JavaScript enabled the classifieds work in that you can select make & model and find corresponding vehicles. if JavaScript is disabled then this does not work. However with JavaScript enabled the site is unstable and ads are causing new web pages to open. E.g.

http://rdsrv.com/newbidder/click.php?subid=236065n...

I do not know if the above helps.

At the moment I think JavaScript is best kept off till this is investigated.I would be grateful for you comments RacingPete.

Can we add that to the list?

Added, though I am sure when we get out a specific sit search there will be those complaining that we got rid of the Google search.

Forum search is due in a couple of weeks.
