Posting on twitter apparently as if nothing is happening laugh
To be fair that's probably from an automated social media tool.

How many moderators are there? Do they have any volunteer user moderators or anything?

Not when they're all munching bacon at Sunday Service. I've posted in the SS thread to see if anyone is paying attention.

All of the mods are volunteers IIRC. There's no posted list that I can recall.

AND AGAIN.

Seriously, there are so many simple ways to stop this and secure the site, yet NOTHING HAPPENS.

I'm pleased they're back. I missed them and feel like I didn't really get to know them properly the last time around.

Some quick pointers:
Close registration for today. You won't lose many new accounts.
Put re-Captcha on sign-ups. It's free.
Post limit new accounts.
Check new accounts aren't spam-bot in nature named.

I know you can't really IP restrict certain countries, but it's certainly a thought if you don't do something.

More advanced options are software and packaged systems that will stop this for you. But we all know just how much Haymarket likes to spend on PH and its security. <coughs>

Dear PH,

How many active mods are there?

The few I know of seem to do a hell of a lot of work free of charge in order to try and keep this broken forum going.

Perhaps it's time to add a few more to the roster?

Ta,

There are about 15 active mods, not all are on as frequently as others due to home/work constraints.

We don't really need any more Mods at this point in time, as when we get spam attacks we would just fall over each other clearing up the debris, what we really need is for the Dev team to put in some Data Base infrastructure to block them at source.

It's on the list of to do's, but as for an implementation date, your guess would probably be better than mine.

HTH.

Good to know there's a somewhat reasonable amount, I thought there were only around 6 active ones! Although I know some are less vocal mods in comparison to you for instance which hides them, which is understandable given some of the completely unreasonable abuse you get at times...

Fair enough about falling over each other during SPAM attacks but the slow response from PH (and the mods but they aren't paid so you can't shift the blame to them!) to delete these threads and ban the users especially on Sunday was pretty poor. Perhaps adding some more weekend cover type mods might still be worthwhile?

Obviously that is only a sticky plaster over the gaping wound that is the PH Forum infrastructure...the fact that nobody from PH has posted on this thread since the recent spam attack is telling.

The real way to assist us fight the fight currently is to post on the spam thread REPORTED and press the report button, by entering that post it will stop other members from all reporting the same thread.

Whilst it is relatively easy to mass delete all the mod reports, it just another job we have to do in addition to removing all the spam posts individually across all the numerous spammed forums. smile
