Hi Ollie_M,

Can we now have a response to the many people who have posted that they do not like the new site?

I appreciate that the GTI skin is a work in progress, but as others have pointed out, there is a fundamental design flaw in the new website. Tinkering with it is pointless when you could just save yourself time by going back to the classic version.
Going back to the old mobile site is not possible without a lot of work done. For example the log in system would have to be changed back, the company that ran the old mobile site would have to work on the site as it hasn't had anything done to it for a while now. The old mobile site is dead and will not be coming back no matter how many people want it back.

Think they should bring it back, just for people to browse on.

I agree with this.

The changes have rendered the site bloody unusable for many. I'll perhaps have another look at the mobile site when I get around to changing my BlackBerry but I'm not in any hurry to do that.

I'm going to speak with the head of development now and I'll raise all these points and see what he says/ recommends.

As they've said many times, they can't. It was a third party solution which they aren't using any more.

Correct it was a site that a) we were paying for and b) was skimming the PH website to pull the information over so any updates were twice as complicated to integrate. Now only having the one skin for both mobile and desktop allows us to put all our efforts and resources into developing a more powerful and seamless platform ( all problems raised aside)

Where to start ...

1. Absurd permanent button menu at the bottom of the screen
2. Screen real estate a fraction of what it was
3. No forum breadcrumb links so navigating is now multiple clicks when previously it was a single click

Those would be my top three.
Thanks for the feedback, as the GTI skin is a new platform there are always going to be a few objections and teething problems so this feedback is invaluable to its development. I will pass this onto the development team for them to investigate and see how it can be resolved/ improved.

PH
So ... any response?

Even to be told "tough we're not changing anything" would be better than silence.

Silence due to annual holiday:

All the points have been raised and seem valid. They will be discussed within the development team and if they agree and can be integrated then development time will be allocated for the work.

I've given up using a mobile device for PH

I've tried all of the skins and none of them make any difference to mobile brousing

(may be due to using a windows phone rather than android or ios so I have some sympathy for the techies that have to try and make stuff work on multiple platforms)

This shouldn't be a problem as the skin is testing for the vast majority of platforms and devices.
What do you mean when you say not working? Just hard to navigate or is that layout corrupt?

Mobiles sites a joke. Seriously gotta be one of the worst I've used. Tapping on the screen to open sub forums does nothing. Unusable for me and it been like that for the past month.

What device are you using so that I can tell the developers to look into it?

I'm on a Windows Phone.

I used to always be surfing the forums when I had a chance to but now I cant because of these problems.

Was working perfect for me in the first weeks.

I can't comment on that As I stayed with the old mobile mirror site until I couldn't anymore

I've added this onto the Support sheet for the team to investigate on Monday, If a quick fix then they'll obviously do it straight away, if there is some development time required they'll book it in. I'll come back to you with an update once I know though.

Thanks for the feedback both

We've had a look into this and we have a nokia windows phone here for physical testing and it's all working fine.

Is there more info you can provide or screen shots of the issue.

Are you using the GTI skin?

Yes I'm on the new GTI skin. As I said before first couple of weeks it was working perfectly.

The issue for me is tapping the screen does not open the subforums. They do highlight but nothing happens. Don't know if the ads are responsible for this...

I've tried the GTi Skin - in fact I'll have to check again after this post but I think I'm still on it

A good example was the Golf GTi SOTW thread - It started huge then shrank to a 1/4 of the page and then gradually mm by mm increased till it filled the screen and then went huge again

It's beyond my capabilities to take a screen shot on a windows phone!!!

^ yeah and that - unresponsive hit it several times and you might get something you want - more often you get something you didn't

And yes 99% of the blame falls with us for getting a windows phone - if they still have the same level of support in a years time I think it'll be android for me next
