Wow - what a difference with Ublock origin - aside from no ads, response time has halved I reckon! Is there something similar for IE?

I find myself returning to this thread today because absolutely no page of PH will load without several seconds of waiting for the stupid, stupid adverts to load!

Ironically the ads that appear to be slowing the page load time this evening are PH's own "Test Drive The Octavia VRS" that are positioned 1/2 way down the thread on the right hand side.

Yes, it's absolutely ridiculous. You'd think the people running this forum are doing their best to destroy it.

So, out of 430 polled, 81% actively used adblock or similar to browse PH, and 11% currently don't but are considering it.

Well done Haymarket, really, well done.

It'll be pure bean-counting Jim.
How many members do we have? So what level of saturation does that allow? And how much revenue will that generate? Go for it.

The actual user experience won't be a priority.

This is why ads are hated so much on here. Far too many and far too wide. Takes the piss.

Can't believe advertisers really pay to advertise on websites. It must be just about the least effective thing to do with investment. even those of us who aren't blocking or sometimes aren't (eg if using work computers or whatever), still don't really respond to adverts. I never even glance at them. I think most people are the same.

uBlock Origin. just loaded it into Firefox - The Dog's Gonads! Why has it taken me this long to use an ad blocker!

Hopefully it will speed up vehicle searches in PH which are unbelievably slow

Whether it solves Firefox taking up so much CPU and memory is another matter............

I use Adblock Plus. It switched on to the max.

Some sites now have a policy that if you are a subscriber you get the content ad-free anyway....or at least can continue to use an Adblocker. They then try and do something to detect the adblock systems and ask you to subscribe. It's a compromise I see coming.

But it's a war of escalation between adblock detectors and adblockers and the latest adblockers are usually ahead...

Switch to Ublock Origin - it's better and uses fewer resources.

Once it got banished to website feedback it was never gonna crack 500 responses.

Nice bump mind to remind new users that they don't have to suffer the ads

How are the likes of Speedhunters funded? They appear in the face of it to be plough quite a bit of cash into their content (it's all beautifully produced), yet the site is one of the cleanest 'commercial' ones out there.

I was curious...

"Whilst it’s never been a secret, many of you are probably not aware that just over seven years ago, Speedhunters.com was launched by Electronic Arts (EA) as a way to support and enhance the Need for Speed franchise."
