Thread running about the absolutely stupid Dacia advert and still no response from PH?

If I have missed it, please correct me. However, it seems like the staff at PH simply do not give a fk. It isn't the first time this has happened either.

I seriously hope these things come back to bite you on the arse one day. Sure, the cash cow is pissing out money left right and centre for you at the moment. One day though, you may need to treat the people who post on here and keep your cash flow going some respect.

Ignorant gits!

I do in PC, but not on mobile.

The thing that is annoying in this instance is the fact that nobody from PH has responded. Just stating that I should stop whinging is missing the point.

There has been response from PH on the Dacia thread. Dom has posted several times in that thread. On Tuesday the 17th he said

Hi funkyrobot,

Thought this ad had disappeared.. What page(s) in the forums are you on when this advert appeared?

Thanks

Hi bigbob77,

Thanks for the feedback. What device, browser, skin are you using?
Dom_PH said:
Some ads are only targeted to a type of device. Skin is unlikely to matter but may affect advert placement.

For us, having these extra details makes it easier to reproduce, which helps us in fixing the issue.

I will chase our ad team this morning.

Extra thanks to those who posted screenshots, these are very helpful.
Dom_PH said:
I have been informed that this ad has now been removed from the forums.

Please make a fuss if it comes back smile
On Thursday the 19th he said

Dom_PH said:
Thanks guys, will chase again.

UPDATE: I have now been informed this has been removed. Apologies for the mix up yesterday, hopefully now it is definitely, absolutely gone!

I have spoken to ad-ops and the advert has been removed (again). I have been informed that the reason why the advert kept coming back has been identified, so fingers crossed that this is the end for the supersized Dacia ad.
I believe it's been said before that there isn't a PH ads team, it's all done under Haymarket. If that is the case then I'm not sure what anyone at PH can do?

This is the thing I have taken issue with recently as well. There seems to be a certain amount of apathy displayed towards posters who raise issues, which is presumably what this forum is here for.

Just an acknowledgement from somebody to say an issue has been noted wouldn't go amiss.

Comunication..communication.. communication.

Indeed. Something better and more meaningful than 'I've checked and the problem is fixed', even though it isn't.

We've been here before Ollie.

How about a useful explanation, like why PH staff cannot fix their own forum?

But it's just an endlessly repetitious cycle

Why not actually fix the root cause ?

Again Ollie the last bit about "keeping our socks on" comes across as condescending
and isn't necessary.

If you don't want to encourage feedback you are going the right way about it.

Ollie, with respect - I think many users of this forum are growing weary of the (repeated) obnoxious adverts.

And every time, we get the same response.

However...

Does it not occur to anybody there, to actually check how these adverts are displayed on your pages, and what effect they have on the site useability?

Because it looks as if nobody at PH gives a st - so long as the advert is displayed somewhere, somehow on the site.

There are many, many other forums and sites out there who do a far better job of advert management, in some cases even making it bearable to use the site without an advert blocker (which is surely the aim..).

But you guys - well you just don't give a st apparently.

Apologies - I was not meaning to be condescending. On reflection, it was probably the wrong expression to use and your requests for an explanation are certainly valid.

So for those of you who aren't familiar with the way adverts are fed onto sites such as PH they come through networks, for which we have rules and agreements in place for the size and appearance and ad type.

This advert contravened all three and slipped through the net. It is not something we would knowingly have served on the page. Added to this it took too long to work this out. It is removed now and despite how it has come across this is not something that we take lightly.

At risk of stating the obvious and being condescending (not my intention at all!), we are a free-to-use site, which we pride ourselves on, but we are not free to run; we have significant running costs.

In order to service these costs, we do need advertising revenue from classifieds and display (banners). Unfortunately, this can catch us out, as it has in this instance. This is far from ideal as it frustrates some members and ends up propagating recommendations of ad blocking which ultimately impacts our ability to make money and continue to develop the site. We will continue to learn and can certainly make improvements.

I hope this goes some way in answering the questions that you may have with regards to the way that PH operates.... and I shall refrain from mentioning any form of attire in future smile

If you do have any further questions though I will be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. info@haymarket.com
