Y'know those little ads you place next to a post in the forums? The little square ones that are usually about 6 posts down or something and cut the post in half (and remove the report button). Just noticed over the last week or so when I click on a thread after a few seconds my screen automatically jumps down to the post with the advert.

Most annoying grumpy

Using a Macbook Pro, safari browser if that helps.

Hi Laurasotherhalf,

Thanks for letting us know about this, sounds very annoying! I'll send it over to our ad team to have a look at.

Apologies!

Jack

Thanks for you feedback.

Does this happen for every thread (with six or more posts) or does this only happen with a specific advert?

Thanks,
Dom

Hi Dom, I've tried to recreate but I'm struggling! So for instance it did it this morning on page 2 of the "How do you perceive Zenith" thread in the watches forum with a Scholl Inserts advert. I then went back and revisited and it didn't do it.

So it is intermittent I think.

I might be wrong, but I've also noticed it more (can't say 100% of the time) that it happens when I click on the thread and then scroll down to the last post I read (using a two finger swipe on the macbook trackpad), i.e. I scroll down and as I see the post I want to read it then jumps back to the advert.

And just happened in the "Stranger Things" thread in TV, Film & Radio. Detol Advert if that helps, seems pretty random.

Hi Laurasotherhalf,

Unfortunately we cannot reproduce this error so we can't take this any further I'm afraid. I'm sorry for the inconvenience!

All the best,

Jack

I'm getting the same thing, including this thread. Usually with the same two adverts and about 10 seconds.

MacBook with safari.

Yes, we have. I do apologise as I'm sure its very annoying, but if we can't reproduce the error theres nothing we can do. frown

It appeared to be happening this morning on almost every thread I clicked on and there are obviously others who are effected. Presumably your advice wouldn't be to use an ad-blocker?

I'm getting the problem on Safari, Version 10.0.1 (10602.2.14.0.7) but it only happens with offing animated adverts.

No problem using Opera as it has built in ad blocking.

I just had the happen on my iMac on Safari. It doesn't seem to happen on IE/FF at work, nor on Safari on my iPhone.

Even happening on this thread.

So far it seems to be the Vanish, Detol and Scholl video adverts that are triggering it.

That's fine, on a hobby forum, but this is a massive forum that drives revenue for the owners which is constructed of rather old and cobbled together software.

Not entirely defending the "there's nothing we can do" response but I suspect they probably mean "There's no way we can deploy debugging tools into the production environment to track this down because the cost of doing so and the potential impact of it going wrong is just too high compared to the impact of this relatively minor problem."

Would be nice if the ad suppliers could be pressured to do something about the bloody redirects that are trying to install malware though.
