I'm determined to make 2017 the year that I manage to eliminate my horrible OTT action!
I had a lesson with a new guy just before Christmas and got on really well, so I'm going to book 3/4 lessons with him through Jan / Feb and I've told him that if my OTT move isn't gone by then, I quit...
I also got a discount card thing for Christmas which entitles me to 50% of green fees for up to 8 people at some decent courses, so I'd like to get out and try some new tracks as well this year.

After a 4 year break with not much golf I'm back into it and determined to get my handicap down out of the teens this year having been stuck at 14 when I was last playing properly.
Been playing loads over the Christmas break but cannot string a decent round together. I know that the problem is in my head as its been the same for 25 years. If I get to the turn with a halfway decent score I collapse in the second half. The reverse is also true as if I play a bad front nine I give up mentally, relax and hit a decent back nine.
I'm going to stop thinking about the score (even though I've tried that before without much success), just focus on each hole and let the score take care of itself.

Two new (old model) wedges for me over Xmas!
I've had my last lot for over 10 years, so am looking forward to extra spinnage.
Went for the Cleveland 588 RTX, Rotex face, 52 and 60.
They're an older model, but I got a good deal on ebay, and reviews at the time were great.

New Ping G Stretch 3 wood is great off the tee (although I've had a few teething issues but hopefully got over those!).
Went on the video room with the pro the other day and I managed to average 235 carry with roll out to 260 yards.
Looking forward to this year!
Our course is playing superbly at the moment, greens are phenomenal.

I would love to say I'll play more golf in 2017 (last rounds were Boxing Day 2016, October 2016 and October 2015, plus a couple of visits to the range), but I suspect that won't happen - kids mean no time! I'll certainly enjoy it if and when I get out though, perhaps fit in some Urban Golf (as I work near to one in London). I also have no justification whatsoever to spend any money on golf kit, which can only be positive!
Only golf update I have is that I played decently in a 12 hole two clubs and a putter comp on Boxing Day morning - 23 points off an 11 hcp, couple of 3 putts, no blobs. Was pleased with that, and really enjoyed having to play some different shots. As someone said on the 2016 thread, by the time I got a few holes in I was comfortable with the clubs (19 degree rescue mid and 8 iron) so suspect I may even have been worse if I'd had a full bag to choose from!

With the British Masters heading there this year, I'd leave till after the event and try it on a tournament layout
Unfortunately it's only valid until the end of March - not that I can complain too much!

Booked in for a Golf and Spa break on Saturday with the OH at Carden Park. Hote for the Saturday, then I go off to play the Nicklaus course while she has various treatments in the Spa - can't wait!

My home course! I hope you'll enjoy it. The Nicklaus being at the bottom of the hill doesn't stand up to wet weather very well, but assuming it's not boggy, it's a nice thinker/planner's course, IMO. Booked in for a Golf and Spa break on Saturday with the OH at Carden Park. Hote for the Saturday, then I go off to play the Nicklaus course while she has various treatments in the Spa - can't wait!
Very expensively built. Not quite so expensively maintained in the winter, but still quite a 'grand' place to play golf, with most holes non-adjacent to others. You can well imagine it set-up for Championships and large galleries lining the fairways. They won't be there, but you can imagine them!
Lots of carefully designed risk/reward set-ups, and quite a few 'show-piece' irons into attractive greens.
Top tip: if the prevailing wind is blowing (which is helping you) then the 17th is drivable off the tee. Probably not worth it if you're neck-and-neck in matchplay, but definitely worth a go if you're on your own.
(the 17th is a huge banana par 4 right in front of the hotel that tracks very closely around a circular lake. Driving it involves 95% carry over the water. Anything short is gone. It's a proper Jonny Large-Potatoes shot selection, but fun.)

This is very good to hear, we were intially looking at the Belfry, however they didn;t seem too keen to answer the phone so looked elsewhere - my old man played the Nicklaus a few times, and only had good things to say about it - and rated it above the Belfry too. The boggy aspect does worry me slightly, but the weather hasn;t been too bad recently, so fingers crossed. I presume if the Niclaus is too bad I'll just get moved to the other course?
Also, what is the resort itself like? We've got a Wine and Dine deal, Bed, Breakfast, Dinner, bottle of wine, 18 holes of golf and a treatment for £259, which looks pretty good value to me.
As an aside I seem to have got a bit silly on the American Golf website. Wanted to get some Nike balls before they all disappeared, and have ended up with 4 Dozen RZN Tour Platinums, and 2 Dozen RZN Black Volt Yellows - seems excessive to have 6 dozen golf balls on the way, but tough to resist at £22 a dozen with the offer.

In wet weather they shut the Nicklaus before the Cheshire, so there's a chance you'd be moved over. That would only be a small shame. The Cheshire isn't overall as impressive, but is still a good course. A few VERY tough holes on the Cheshire. Plenty of places where it seems you're generally in OK shape, but you actually need a bit of a miracle to make par.bodhi said:

Main restaurant is very good, though it's a good while since I ate in there. The whole resort is pretty plastic though, IMO. It's got one of everything, and it's all very nice, but it's all a bit cold, IMHO. Lovely grounds to walk/jog around, nice views over Wales, and you can walk both the courses to have a good look at them if your good lady will indulge that kind of nonsense.
After having best intentions to play more last season and buying some new irons and wedges, sadly it was a write off. I've struggled with a bad neck for years (couple of car accidents and playing golf full time for 8 years did the damage) and it came to a head in June and I had to stop playing due to Chiropractor work. But this season I'm fit, well and ready to go! I'm a Callaway fan and my mate at the local range has just gone to them after being with Nike so I'm going to get fitted out for the new driver soon
